Hi guys,

we'd like to visit the Big A for a week during the 2nd week in July. We love travelling but don't want to stay somewhere where we're going to have to pay a lot to sleep, which I know is a lot to ask for in the City, but does anyone know anywhere????

We are married so need a double bed and of course a roll in shower/bathroom. We tend to try and book flights and accom seperately as it tends to work out cheaper. Any suggestions from guys who have been there/people living there? My wife has her own travel shower chair so this is not an issue.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Thanks,

Ian

Hi Ian - As a resident of the NY metro area, I have some good news and some bad news. The bad news is that a decent place to sleep will likely cost more than $250. The Roosevelt Hotel is nice but not spectacular and goes for $415 / night. Call hotels directly and explain exactly what you need. Some hotels have the idea that a tub with a shower seat in it is universally okay for accessibility. (Expect to repeat yourself several times.)

The good news is that you may want to consider is going outside of the city and taking the train in. Just a for instance, the Hyatt in New Brunswick is ~$225 / night and about two blocks away from the accessible train station that goes right into New York Penn Station. New Brunswick is also a nice little college town with some good restaurants. Train fare is about $20 round way and probably a reduced fare (if any) for a companion.

Check tripadvisor.com, too.

Happy traveling,
R
