Hi. has anyone heard of or used a freedom wheel from EPC. They are a larger wheel hich clamps onto the front of your chair and are supposed to be great for going over awkward terrain. I'm thinking of getting one and want to know if they are any good. Thanks

Hi,

i haven't tried it out but i have seen it, it looks good and whilst i was in there buying something else a customer came in to pick one up and they had it out the box and explained it all to him how to fit it, adjust it and everything. Looks like a great idea.

I dont know if you know EPC but they are great at letting you try stuff and having a really good look at your needs and whats practical for you. If you can get to see them its well worth a trip but call first for an appointment as they might not be able to spend much time with you if they have another appointment booked

And they make a fantastic cup of tea, i wouldnt go anywhere else now.

Good luck with it

Hi Trudi,

Thanks for the post. I definately think I'm going to get one as I'm going to a festival in the summer and I think it will come in handy. I've had a couple of great conversations with a sales guy at EPC and he's said that if it's not right when it arrives I can send it back and get a refund. Not sure if they will send a cup of tea in the post, so I suppose that's a big downside to doing it online by the sounds of it. I'll let you know what it's like though, when it arrives.

I was looking for something like this and found out about the "go free wheel" which seems pretty cool and definitely much smaller than the freedom wheel. I'm not sure if it's as robust as the bigger freedom wheel, but the small size makes it much more convenient as you could just wheel around with it in a backpack and put it on if/when needed. And it only costs a 1/3rd of the freedom wheel.

I also just found out about EPC too, the airline buckled one of my wheels on a recent trans-atlantic flight and I got a quote for replacements from EPC. I have a kuschall so it was nice to see they carry a few kuschall things too.

Hi,

I designed the FreeWheel Attachment and am really excited to show you about it. You can see it in this youtube clip.

My design is adjustable to fit most chairs and makes getting around much more enjoyable when there is unsmooth surfaces to push across. It basically turns your chair into an all terrain chair.

I'm a C6/7 Incomplete and I'm also a mechanical engineer. Oh yeah, I'm also a husband and dad!

Hello 'Slight',
why don't you have a look at the topic Ballon wheelchair for "impossible" areas

If you would rather modify your wheelchair to be able to conquer "awkward" terrain take a look at cadKat's wheelchair modification kit

This modification kit fits most wheelchairs on the market.

I hope to have helped you.
Have a nice day

Marius alias beachwheels

If you guys would like to see videos of the conversion kit in action go to our beach wheelchair modification playlist
Furthermore I am glad to tell you that we have updated our homepage index so it will be easier for you to pick your favorite language (to be found under www.cadkat.com

Have a great week
