My husband and I got married on the beach on a Hawaiian Island, then 2 months later we had a reception for all our family and friends (about 130 people). We did have a head table where my husband and I sat along with his children (best man and maid of honor) and their girlfriend/boyfriend, plus a couple of other friends they brought with them (they lived a couple of hundred miles away from us), but we skipped doing all the traditional stuff couples do during their reception. My husband had been through it with his first marriage and even though this was my first marriage, I wasn't really into all that stuff and actually we asked people to just attend in lieu of gifts. I was 34 and already had been out on my own for many years and didn't really need/want anything from anyone. We just wanted to celebrate! I did wear my wedding dress again. I'm so frugal and I felt better getting to wear my dress at least 2 times. We did have a professioal photographer there to take pictures with our families and our DJ came up with an idea instead of the bride and groom's first dance, I just started the dancing by being the head of the "Conga" line and after that everyone just hopped on. My husband at that time had good trunk control so he would go out on the dance floor with everyone and I would just sit on his lap (my train was all hooked into place) and we danced cheek to cheek as he swayed me back and forth. We actually did pretty good considering we were both liquored up by mid evening. My husband and I cleaned his wheelchair up good before the reception and he tried to avoid rolling across any blacktop surface. My dress was cleaned after our Hawaiian wedding, but the cleaners coudn't get all the red dirt out from a couple of spots, but my dress after the reception was in good shape.
Good luck with your wedding. I'm sure it will be special no matter what you decide to do.
