  • Spinal Injury Level / Relationship:Friend

Hello to all.

First off, I must say that I've read a few posts in this forum and am truly moved; I will say no more on that for now.

My reason for arriving here on this forum is that I am trying to assist a very close friend who has a back injury as the result of a fall. Back in January, she fell on her tail-bone and prolapsed the disc at L5. This disc will not go back in, perhaps due to the level of compression of the vertebrae. This friend has been waiting on the NHS for months with an operation date this is still months away. One department says it will operate yet another says it wont (she is seeing ortho and neuro, simultaneously). She can walk for short distances and cannot sit upright for long periods, hence she has been off work ever since.

I had talked her into going private and her supportive employer has offered to pay for the treatment. The PHC consultant she saw has today decided not to operate, citing risky surgery and chances of being worse off thereafter.

So, it's like a brick wall at the moment and I just wondered if anyone here could offer any advice, experience, or just point me in the right direction. I truly apologise if I should not be posting this here, but I'm clutching at anything to help this woman just now.

Thx,
Donny
