Hi everyone! My name is Danielle, or Danni as most call me. I'm 20 years old and am 4 years post. I was paralyzed on January 25th, 2004 by a car accident. My ex was driving, and the truck rolled. I was driven from our local hospital to Chicago Illinos' North Western hospital. From there I did rehab at a Shriners near Chicago. 10months after my accident, I met my now husband, Brandon, who is a SGT in the US Army and currently deployed to Afghanistan. He's been gone 5mnths already, and we've got another 10 to go. (only 5 until he visits for a 2 week vacation though!!!)

I'm so glad I've found this forum, I'm still trying to cope with all of the changes, all of the things I can no longer do, and such. So it will be nice to come somewhere that people will understand.

Can't wait to get to know you all-
Danielle

Hi Danielle. I am Sandy, a 46 year old woman. I am just 6 months post, caused by a MRSA infection in my spine. There are a lot of nice and informative people here. And the people here do understand what you're going through. Good luck to you.

Thanks for the warm welcome!!

I think I'll post a photo of myself in a little while, I saw another post on here where photos are, so I'll post it here and there so that you all can put a face to the name. I am really excited to have found this site-- so much support seems to be in all these threads!!

Okay, it took me awhile to find a photo that you can tell I'm in a chair, since for me, I'm always trying to look like I'm not- haha

This photo was taking December 28, 2007 (so... 5mnths ago) the day my husband deployed...

This one is from last Thanksgiving--

This one made me cry when I saw it, same day as the one above but I'm just amazed at how AB I look haha-- I mean really, this is the first photo post accident (4 years haha) that I haven't looked at my legs and thought "grrr i look paralyzed!"

Anyone else get irrritated by "looking" paralyzed!??

Danielle

Welcome Danni, you husband is a real lucky guy. After awhile being in the chair becomes second nature so don't worry about it I mean just think how it would look if we had to use skate boards instead of wheelchairs. See ya................

Hi, Danielle
WELCOME to you. I love the pics, ur husband and u look so happy together. I can only imangine how difficult it is for u not to be with him. THANK YOU to both of you for the service that you're doing for this country! While I know that he's doing the serving, I believe that the wives/g/f do a service also by letting them go!
As for your newest question, yes, I get annoyed when I look at pics of me liiking AB also. Mine are mostly from that point in my life. I'm waiting to get my new manual, so I can take some shots. I have to realize that this is REAL...and I think the pics help us "get"that!
I wasn't in an accident, I have a congential condition that caused my paralisis. I've been in my scooter for two years, but could 'slide' my feet across the floor w/a walker. Can't do that anymore. was dx/para in dec '07.
I hope and wish the best to u and yours!!
Take care and God bless... Em
