Hi my wife has C4/C5 injury incomplete.Her injury occurred 5 years ago but she is getting fresh problems in that she has pains in her neck and stiiffness.

The hospital has no answers i wondered if anyone else had the same experiances. As i'm new to this site i hope i haven't correspondedin the wrong manner.

Pain in the neck is definitely a pain in the neck. All kidding aside.

Yes, you can have new problems develop years after the injury (Hey Doctors, are you listening?) Pain and stiffness in the neck can be caused by the biomechanical stress of the fusion itself. The neck just doesn't bend the same after being fused.

I would agree on going back to the doctor and getting another MRI. An adjacent disc could be failing (have had this happen twice).

Yeah, I'd agree with getting it seen to. But at the same time keep your mind open cos it can be caused by any number of things. It may even be emotional tension rather than anything structural or a recent subtle change in postural support such as cushioning. No easy answer but you can begin eliminating some possibilities.

Hi robert.

The first thing is to exclude any thing nasty which you seem to have done.

My husband is a lower lesion than your wife but he gets pain in his neck and shoulders when he's tense or under stress. So it could be that.

One thing that does help is if I massage/stroke gently across his shoulders and up the back of his neck. It can be with a little lavender oil. Doesn't have to be out of his chair,just sitting in front of a table and he rests his head on a pillow.

I'm c4 complete, neck pain can be an issue but I would get serious things eliminated like syringomelia (fluid on / around injury site). Which spinal unit is she at? Guessing Oswestry as you're in Coventry.

I agree, go see a SCI specialist.

Does she eat healthy? How old is she? I ask because calcium deficency is hard on us SCI folks. Calcium defficency is ruff on women.

I went to a ciropracter because I had tons of spasams and neck pains were severe. I went to a Chinese guy who found a kink in my neck because I was overcompisating my body movements. I also had gas.

Thats when I was 5 years post too. Just an idea
