i went to the spinal unit on wednesday for my 1st visit, after i explained my symptoms to the consultant i.e that ive loss of sensation to bowel and bladder he sent me for an xray saying that i was constiptated (knowing fine well i wasnt i went along with it).
As i thought the xrays came back fine there was no blockages or constipation.

What he was trying to say was that coz my bowel was full,it was pushing on my bladder causing that not to work.

Finally admitting he was wrong hes sending me to urology for urodynamics has any one any idea what this is and what it entails.

Hes slso told me to stop self catheterising even though ive got no feelings to go.

So can you actually pee on your own or not? If not there is no way you should stop self cathing. If you can go on your own but cant actually tell you need to go then you could try doing it by the clock say every 2 or 3 hours.

Urodynamic is hilarious, you will lose any dignity you ever had, ha ha!!! Im guessing its the same for men. The urologist pumps your bladder up with water and then you have to say at what point you feel you need to go, or not as the case may be. I still couldnt tell after a litre. They also measure your output if any as well. Takes about 2 hours or so and Ive had it done twice. A sense of humour helps! Your urologist will then know whats happening and be able to advise you on the best course of action.

Cheers

the only time i know i need to pee is i get massive pains in my stomach, thats why i was told to self cath as my bladder was holding more than 500 mls+ and my nurse wanted me to cath every 4 hours and keep a record of input and output.
I lost all my dignity a while back after numerous doc fingers up me a**ehole lmao

I have a Urodynamics appointment in a couple of weeks. Not been before, but apparently they shove something up my arse and then stick another thing up my willy before pumping my bladder full of water.

Some people would pay good money for that!

[color=#660000]Hello,

I also have a urodynamics (bladder test) schedule and from what the nurse told me. They will insert a catheter into the penis and some other device\tude up your butt. They look for blockage, spasms, odd pathage to and from the bladder and som stuff shr mention.

I want to do a suprapublic coz i'm thinking it will be less problem.

Urodynan=mics is a measure to see how your bladder, kidneys and urrethra are working. They pump you up with saline and see if anything backs up into your kidneys. Then they see how much you will void (push out). Under 60cc seems to be good. My spictor muscle would clamp down when my bladder pushed. I would retain more then 800cc of fluid. Not good.

So, that was a fun way to spend my Friday afternoon.
Lying on my back for half an hour in a room with three other people whilst I was naked from my waist down with various tubes poking out of my orifices.

My results showed very little except that I cold dome off the Oxybutenin (sp) as it does nothing for me. I'm going to have an appointment with my consultant where we'll discuss the results, but I suspect we'll leave things as they are.

Related to another thread but there was an amusing moment whilst I was reading a golfing magazine as I waited. The nurse came over to make small talk and asked me if I was a keen golfer!

You think urodynamic studies mean a loss of dignity....try having a baby!! (maybe not as most of you seem to be guys!!). Not only do you sometimes have tubes stuck up an orifice BUT whole hands and parts of arms! Then the pushing out of something that feels like a pumpkin from somewhere that you are certain could never stretch that much....I could go on...actually it is amazing the human race continues after all that!
