Hi Kenny,

It all depends what context BP is mentioned.

If it is mentioned with regards to spinal injuries, it can either mean Blood Pressure or Bowel Program.

Regards

Simon :D

It might also refer to Baclofen Pump?

It's early in the morning here and I've only taken my first sip of coffee so bear with me. It really IRKS me when people use abbreviations that haven't earlier been defined in the thread. Unless they are just so common that any normal, right thinking person (like myself! :D ) would instantly and obviously know what they mean.

It seems like several times a day I come across an abbreviation that I'm not sure about. So I need to spend my time reading for context in order to define the abbreviation instead of reading for information or entertainment . Okay, the coffee is beginning to work and I've calmed down a bit.

I'm cognizant of the fact that many people here have limited hand function and the use of abbreviations can be very helpful to them. And they deserve greater latitude and understanding. But to you ABs and paras.... and you know who you are.... you've been warned! :D

I always assumed that BP stood for British Petroleum. Mmm, that some good tastin' oil you guys pump out of the North Sea. Tastes like cod. But when written at a SCI forum BP usually stands for bowel program. But later noticed people using it for blood pressure. And we now see other people assigning it to bi-polar and Baclofen Pump.

Um, when I was growing up British Petroleum was just starting to build their gas or petrol franchise in my area and erecting those big BP signs. So my friend's alcoholic and abusive father started calling and referring to his wife as a BP. Big Pig. He thought it was so funny. He was a professional man too. Dressed in a "monkey suit" as he referred to it when he was drunk and was an important man of "position" at an uppity medical journal writing and publishing house in Philadelphia. He would take the train to work in the morning and he looked so prim and proper... and professional. But started drinking on the ride home and would polish off a couple fifths (almost 2 liters) of vodka, gin or whiskey before bed every night and turn very ugly. What a real Jekyll & Hyde he was. He also had the best Swedish hardcore porn any teenage kid (like myself at the time) could ever hope for. This was way before the Internet and easy access to it!

Isn't there some rule of writing that requires the word being abbreviated to be written out the first time it's used. And perhaps even written out with the abbreviation in parentheses or the word or words in parentheses. Maybe I'll do a Google and find out. I'll be back.

Another thing that irks me. Some long-winded guy barging into a thread writing about things that have no relation to the topic whatsoever. People are so inconsiderate these days.
