I was wondering if anyone else who uses a foley and is plagued by e coli based UTIs has ever tried D-Mannose to prevent or treat their infections. My dermatologist swears by it, and since I'm still battling 4-6 e coli UTIs every year, I am desperate for some relief.

For those who don't know, D-Mannose is a form of sugar that sticks to your bladder wall like glue displacing the e coli bug the cause of 90 % of uti's, then the e coli bug is attracted to the D-mannose and sticks to the D-mannose and not onto your bladder wall. The next time you urinate, the D-mannose will simply drop off in urination taking the e coli bug with it, leaving your bladder free from e coli and urine infections. Also an amazing fact with dmannose is no bugs good or bad are killed. Dmannose simply displaces the e coli bug which is evacuated through urination.

If there are an D-Mannose fans already out there, would you please share your story? Ditto for any haters -- I'd really like to get a balanced perspective since this sounds just a little bit too good to be true.

Thanks! I'll of course keep you updated with my own little experiment.

I'm new to sci, only 11 months. I use D-mannos everyday. I have not had a UTI since I started. However, I got a suprapubic tube to also reduce chance of UTI's. I mix D-mannos with ,my Gatorade and Murilax, can't taste either. I suggest the powder, as the equivalent dose in capsules is ridiculous. my $.02

I use D-mannose all the time and it works great. I have SP cath and its very rare I have a UTI. Question though, How often do you change the bag, not the cath, but the bag?

I haven't had a UTI since I started D-Mannose and it's been years and years.

Yes, please keep me updated. UTIs are my oldest foe. I have an indwelling with a plug (resisting a SPC) and am trying some new things myself. I'm taking a med called Methenamine which my uroligist told me would make my urine too acidic for bacteria. Been taking it a few weeks now and so far so good. He also suggested I empty my cath every two hours so urine doesn't build up, but if your cath has a bag that doesn't really apply to you. Best advice is drink, drink, drink though, in my opinion. And I'm not talking about sake bombers here! Flush that bacteria out of your system. Good luck with your experiment though and like I said, keep me updated. :D

Has anyone use garlic (capsule) before for UTI prevention? I've been using it for a while and it has been working for me. However, sometimes I get low grade infection (with low grade fever) but it usually go away on it own fairly quick. I'll give the mannose method a try though
