Hello Newby here,

My name is Diane and Had a procedure done on my l3 and l4 a laminectomy and disketecomy 2 days latter at emerg. room was told had a leak of spinal fluid due to a tear, next day operation with 2 stiches and glue restapled and in bed for 2 days no movement. I'm up and walking sometimes but still get these terrible headaches never suffered from any before. How long does it take ones body to reproduce this fluid again and how much longer will I have to deal with this pain? I lost allot of fluid and it was 3 days before they could fix it. Also is there any side affects of this type of injury? Would anyone recommend a different type of Dr. other than a orthopedic doctor for an opion since no one here at the hospital has said much.

Thank you, you all have much more terrible stories than I do and I hope that all works out for ya's

Diane

There is info on wikipedia about csf
http://en.wikipedia....brospinal_fluid
It says csf is produced at 500ml/day and brain only has space for around 150ml. So would think you have enough again, you should get the headaches checked as infection in csf can be common after surgery on this area causing such things as meningitis.

Dear Simon,

That's great to know but they already sent me home yesterday with meds for the headaches forescet and oxycodone for the pain for the original op on th l3 and l4 but now I have the worst pain in my left leg and buttock. If I do not take the forscet or pain killers and wait ( I hate taking pills) It feels as though I'm going to scream in pain. Last night my 1st night home the pain in my left leg actually woke me up and it took an hour after taking the pain killers for me to halfway fall asleep. When they fixed the tears in was just stitches and glue bed confinment for 2 days and told after that to try and walk alittle every day. I did but my left leg is so much in pain I had to actually beg the hosp. for a walker to help me get around.

Does any of this seem right and is this just a side effect from the tears in my spinal cord? How long will this last?

Thanks,
Nipper :)

hi there,

PLEASE get checked out !!!

4 years agao i had a Spinal Leak due to a hole in my Dura (caused by epidural)
the headaches (if you can call them that!) were truely PAINFUL - and always worse when i was upright,
as soon as i laid down they would ease slightly...

anyway, the hospital had to close the hole with a Blood Patch, the headashes got better,

but i caught Septicemia from the proceadues, the infection was based in my lumbar.

Pain all over back / spine / bottom of head / neck stiffness / weakness in legs

Basically im still in exactly the same mess now as i was 4 years ago living with pain every single day

please get checked out, mel xx
