Nick was rushed to A&E at our local hospital not long ago because his catheter was blocked and we (incl district nurse) could not get any output at all. Not even through the urethra and the bladder washout came straight out of the stoma.

The doctor at A&E proceeded to change the cath and pushed the whole lenght of the cath in until the tip was coming OUT of his penis!!!! Another cath was put in but still no output. I presume most catheter changes are done by nurses not doctors! So now we had an added source of his already raging Autonomic Dysreflexia. Nick was finally seen by the urologist and had a bladder scan that showed that the 10ml inflated balloon was now situated in the neck blocking the urethra!!!

I just can't belive the incompetence.......or can I?

That's horrible. I hope he's feeling better now. It really is amazing how incompentant some of these doctors can be, that's why I try to handle as much of my own stuff as I can. I hope there's no permanant damage to his urethra, that's a scary thing.

That is very scaryI always have to make sure that my relative pushes the cap catheter all the way in before inflating the balloon
I live my life with pride because it's hard to swallow.
