Hey everyone I need some advice because I dont know that what an ER doctor told me made any sense. I woke up one night and had to pee, so I got my catheter lubed it up and inserted it. When it was about halfway in I started bleeding, pretty badly. I know that some blood is normal with cathing and Im not normally squeamish about bleedding, but there was enough blood that I just freaked out. I pulled out the cath and on the way out it felt like it was scratching me although its kinda hard to tell. The catheter wasnt jagged or anything like that. I went back to sleep eventually and woke up to find a good amount of blood. Mt mom took me to the emergency room the next day and the doctor said dont worry about it prescribed me some antibiotics and a catheter lubricant that would help with numbing since inserting a cath is kinda painful now. Well the lubricant isnt something you can get at a pharmacy so that was a bust and I smoked some pot to help with the uncomfortable cathing. The bleeding and discomfort pretty much stopped the next day. Now 3 days later I cathed and Bam Im bleeding again, I dont know what to do. I dont know if Im gonna heal properly or not having to cath every 4-6 hours and Im constantly leaking blood. Any advice or ideas. I really need to figure out how to fix this. Thanks in advance for any advice you have on the subject.

First things first Dave. If you hurt your eye you'ld go to an eye doctor,,,,your foot,, a foot doctor. What you hurt was your dick,,,,sooooo go to the,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Urologist.

He can scope you in his office and tell you exactly what is bleeding......Worked for me.

I have heard with ISC sometimes you can find a false opening in the urethra. So be careful.

I have consistently found the gel coated catheters are very hard to pass and have tried all the differnt samples and variants. I keep coming back to my old favorite "Lofric" which is a hydrophyllic (think thats the spelling) basically you add water in to the cath packet, wait 30secs then use, they are super slippy. Never had any major problems compared to gel lubricated ones.

Also make sure the caths are the right ones. i use nelaton which i think means it has a straight end.. I was once give Tiemen ones by mistake, these have a slight bend in the end. I never noticed and used them for a week. realised when i started p1ssing blood!

Hope it sorts

I had to drink lots of water when I had this episodes.
Likewise, I took Hemostan as medication to control the bleeding after some time, the bleeding stopped. Probably your ureters are inflamed and any contact with the catheter causes it to bleed. Your uro can give a good assessment.

Happened to me before w/ a caregiver who THOUGHT she put enough gel on the cath . . . abviously NOT! I used an indwelling for several days (4-5) to allow the tear to heal.

That did the trick.
