I love that I can pretty much decide when we will have sex.
I get to control what I like durring sex. (mostly)
I dont have to ever worry about him hitting me. (not that he ever would)
When we go shopping, he carries all of the bags (my pack mule) and the kids if needed.
Our house is ready for when I get older.
The kids love the front and back wc ramps to ride on.
We pick up big things and I can just roll them up the ramp into the van (no lifting)
I get in free with him at clubs (i'm his PA)
He is my ammusement park ride.
and on and on

I never ment this post to be offensive to ANYONE!!! I'm so sorry it was interpreted as such! I would give my life for Steven to get the chance to walk or even stand for that matter, just once more, even for 30 seconds. SCI is a part of my life too. It will be two years for Steven next week. His life has change in ways we never saw coming. We try to move forward and find joy in what we do have. I will remove this post if others feel the same as you. Again, I'm sorry for offending you or anyone else, in any manner!

I personally dont feel you need to remove this post i think its a good thing to see the positive sides to a sci, if u always look at the negatives you will become very bitter and angry.
I have never been happier 18 months post injury Im living my dream in life playing sport full time and maybe one day for GB, (wheelchair rugby)
There are losts of advantages being in a chair has over AB like, parking, queues, seating, entrance fees etc.
I do everything in my chair and more than I did before even climbing mountains

I can surely understand the frustrations of being paralyzed. But I don't see the harm in this post or why any apology by the poster was required. I hace been a c4-5 quad for over 20 years. There is no cure for SCI and who knows if there ever will be. Even if a cure is found tomorrow, who's to say my body is to long gone to be fixed?
I live for today and have to accept my disability. Being mean or hating the world won't make any cure come faster. If anything being an A$$ on hurts that person being the a$$. This includes everyone disabled or not. Nobody wants to be disabled. But we are. I enjoy life and feel I am very lucky to have what I have. From my accident, I could have been dead. I am lucky to still have a chance of finding happiness, which I have.
Most SCI guys dont see it my way but I do wounder why not. I see a lot of AB people bitch and complain about life as much. SCI people say they would cherish everything if they could be walking again. I doubt it. People can whine about life disabled or not. We can make ourselves happy if we want to.
I do also know that I am lucky as some SCI have pains I have been lucky to avoid. The hardships of SCI on a family is more painful then most people can endure. Life is hard. But I am alive and I am lucky to have a wife, kids, parents, family and friends support because I did not let my disability rule me.
I do believe a cure will be available one day. But I am not stopping my life to wait for it.

I live in a Condo with six wheelchair permit spots, and 118 units.
One AB owner decided that he was going to park in a wheelchair spot without a W/C permit. He was fined $300.00 by the City of London. This owner took the ticket to the condo board, and the condo board decided that the owner (1 out of 118) was right and he should be able to park anywhere he wants. This owner was refunded $300.00 from the General Fund (money that belongs to all owners).
The condo president took it upon himself to contact the city and apparently got a letter stating that the condo is private property and is not required to provide accessible parking.
The president of the condo, has decided himself that accessible parking would be abolished!
The building is built on the side of a hill. The main entrance is on the third floor!, and the back of the building is basically underground until the fifth floor!
I will be taking this to the Human Rights Commissioner - this condo will be reimbursing more than $300. I can assure you of that! Ontario passed legislation to make all businesses accessible by 2012 - A condo is incorporated as limited partnership (sounds like a business to me)!

1. I always have a chair to sit in. I bring my own to parties, potlucks, etc ., where there might not be any chairs left due to the crowd.
2.For me, walking is a hard, unbalanced, unsafe, undignified process. My wheelchair allows me speed, grace, and most of all, independence!
3. Not having to worry about falling on ice in the winter, like I see so many walkers doing! I've even helped some back to their feet, and they usually make some comment about how now they are the ones who are disabled. :-)
4. Always having a place to relax and put my feet up, once I've transferred to another chair to read or watch TV.
5. Being able to get a free Accessibility Pass for the national parks.
6. A wheelchair makes for an extremely solid, portable photography platform.
7. Re.lated to #3, but being able to go across icy stretches that some AB can't or won't due their fear of falling. Depending on how the snow is plowed, recently fallen, frozen over, etc., being on wheels instead of feet can actually be better. I can walk my dog during the winter and not worry about falling, when some AB may decide not to.

Also...I love when we go anywhere out of the country on vacations and he is treated like royalty. I mean he gets pushed around everywhere, we cut in line at the luggage checks and customs at the airport. It's great.
And we have been bumped up to first class on flights too!
It's also nice that we don't have to worry about an unplanned pregnancy. I hated using condoms anyways.
