Hi, I was wondering if there is any kinda of diet I could go on and if anybody has any exersices that you know of. I try to watch what I eat but that doesn't always work out. I have an exercise video I guess I should get back on that it is a cardio vascular work out from your wheel chair. But that is hard to keep up with. Can anybody help me? :)

The best way (although not always the fastest) to lose weight is to count calories. I've tried a lot of the fad diets and while I may lose weight, I don't feel healthy and I have to deprive myself. My whole world becomes centered around a diet that I cannot maintain. Now I eat 1200-1300 calories per day (the norm for a woman is around 2000, a man 2500) which is not hard at all. It's amazing how much you'll learn about food counting calories and you end up just teaching yourself the right way to eat for life. There are calorie counter websites that will tell you how many calories different items have and help you set up a food diary. In the beginning stages, it's really helpful to keep a diary so you can keep track of what you eat. I don't even use one now as I can do it all in my head. I've found for me, cutting out big meals has been the most helpful thing. Instead of eating 3 large meals a day, I just eat small snacks all day and one meal at night. I never feel hungry or like I'm depriving myself.

As for exercise, I do crunches, push-ups, weights and hand cycling. I can do the crunches, push-ups and weights at home. I have some strap-on hand weights I use. I just bought them at Target for about $10. I go to my school gym to use the hand cycle and they have another weight machine I can use. Just go over to your local gym and ask if they have any accessible equipment. I also swim, but not as often as I would like, at the gym's pool.
Insert witty, intelligent and deep quote here.

I've been doing weight watchers. I was in the hospital the first weel of may and was weighed and just came home from the hospital today and was weighed. In that length of time I've lost 13 pounds. I am a T4 para and can't do any exercise except lifting hand weights.

Wheeling around the neighborhood is a great way to burn off some extra weight.

Theraband comes in different strengths and works well as counter a weight without carrying an actual heavy weight around.
