Here in New Zealand this week we raised the fine for parking or blocking a disabled parking spot to $150, up from $40. In today's news is a story of the Prime Minister's motorcade blocking a park and forcing an old couple to go 200 metres down the road. The media is going to town on it which is much appreciated in highlighting better use of these parks. So, thanks and no thanks PM. :wink05: :mfrlol:

I heard that too! Was shopping in Auckland with my daughter and heard it on the news. As my husband is a recent SCI, and still in rehab, I am a lot more observant of those taking the disabled parking spaces, but the Prime Minister doing so - Shame on you and your minders, Helen Clark!

Wow, its hard to believe that the fine was only $40 for that! Here in the US it is $200 in most places, although in some states (like IL) you will see different amounts at different places which is odd to me. MN is $200 statewide statute, and the average you see in this country. I cant even imagine how many more violations there would be if it was only $40 here. Thats great though that a high profile persons motorcade like that was busted, thats whats needed to get things done it seems.

Hi all, I have been looking at disabled parking recently. Pak N Save in Lincoln Road (Henderson, Auckland, NZ) and Waitakere Hospital (of all places) are never enforced from what I can see. Last time I was at Pak N Save 5 out of 6 spaces were occupied by non card holders and about 80% at Waitakere were in use by non card holders including staff (while the security guard strolled past). One even had a Jesus fish on the back window (whatever happened to do unto others?). Anyhow, my point is would it be good or possible (the name shamed.co.nz springs to mind) to start a website which posted photos of offending vehicles. The vehicle photos could be taken off on proof a mobility permit was held or a donation to CCS or an apology letter sent in. Could I have some opinion on this and the legality of doing this?

Shopping Malls etc are usually on private property and don't come under the jurisdiction of police or local authority traffic officers - it's up to the mall management to enforce rules. That's why it seldom is enforced though St Lukes, auck, used to be good at it - nearly towed me away when I forgot my card.

Posting pix on a website is legal as long as the facts are right. That would mean your photo would have to clearly show that the vehicle was in a Disabled Parking spot as in having a sign in the same picture - not always easy. Otherwise you'd need some other material proof that the car is using a DP park.

Check out this post, other than the parking bay abusers letter and the website hosted here, there is some talk towards the end on the same subject as starting up a different website with photos as you mention.
