My husband now recieves NHS Continuing Care and we are thinking of having a live in PA from one of the specialist care providers.
Has anybody had any experience of this?
As we are private people and have lived happily as a couple for nearly 40 years now, does it encrouch on your privacy too much?
Or does the help you get outway the disadvantages?
Has anybody been turned down a live in by there NHS Trust?

Lots of questions, need lots of replies please.

Irenec,
Sorry no UK'ers have responded yet. I can only speak of the privacy issue, and of course that is compromised to some extent. But the carers here also do alot of domestic duties as well:

cook
dust
sweep/ mop floor
dishes
etc

So, with this in mind, as well as helping with night care, dressing changes (I had an ulcer at the time), it was definately worth our while to have a live-in carer.

Good luck with others responses!

Knowing if a PA will get in the way at home is really dependant on you. Would they have their own in out of the house? Is the bedroom of the PA close to yours? Unless the PA is lucky to have their own space, how could it not affect you? Living wityh a PA has its advantages and disadvantages of course. After 40 years together nobody will just fir into your life without having a different daily schedule. They watch different shows, eat different foods, watch tv all night, have their own personal issdues.

My hubby had PAs for about 8 years. It is hard to find good safe non stealing helpers. I am sure there are some. Collage stidents seem to be the best but they go home on breaks and have other needs t\o.

If you need help, you need help. But will your cozy quit alone time be effected, Yes.
