MY husband is a C5/6. He has just had an attack of AD.He uses condom drainage, and is draining well.He hasnt got an infection,we have tested his urine with multi sticks, and bowels are ok.
His testicles are really red i think hes developed a reaction to bio washing powder.
He has taken Nifedipine, and used Timodine on the sore skin. His BP is back to normal now.
Could this redness have brought on AD?

Hi Irenec. I don't have answers but I can bounce this back to the top for anyone who can offer something.
Generally, so little is known of the whats and hows of precise causes for AD that you can't discount anything. I'd be surprised if it is triggered by a skin reaction in the scrotum region but, as I said, you can't discount anything. Are you sure the redness is a reaction to the washing powder or could it be a symptom of something else like heat or pressure?

Hi,

Has he been sitting on his testicals?

If so, this can cause an infection, which could aggrivate AD.

If his testicles feel hot, look red and swollen, then you'll need to get medication to fight the infection. This condition is known as Orchitis.

The best way to reduce the chances of Orchitis, is to make sure he isn't sitting on the testis when in his wheelchair.

Other reasons for AD could be kidney stones, skin problems of the sitting area and feet.

It's just a process of elimination really to find out whats causing the AD.

Regards

Simon

Quads can have a lot of pain before causing AD. With that said, quads have had AD and died from a broken toe. Testicles are bundles of nerves so I have no doubt that he is in plenty of pain. I don't know what you are using to wash him with but it is likely that he has a new allergy. You may want to try silicone condom catheters if changing soaps isn't the problem. Latex allergies are rather common. Hollister has a good catheter for men that have trouble with leakage.
My very best to you all,
john

P.S. Don't be afraid to see a urologist about it.
