I'm a 26 year old male who has just returned from a 9 day stay in hospital. I have been told that I have been suffering from Ulcerative Colitis. This is where inflamation of the bowel causes bad diahorrea as well as passing a lot of blood up to 15 - 20 times a day. The steriods (Prednisolone) and Asacol which I take seem to be doing the trick so far....touch wood! As I suffered a bad spinal injury a couple of years ago (incomplete C-5 break) this has left my bowels "not normal" and I suppose its just a case of start to luck after my insides better.
If anyone has had this or could tell me a little about the condition....I would be very glad. Can't help but think the SCI has had a hand in causing it.

Cheers.

Big respect to all SCI people !

I have the condition, although I am able bodied. I don't take any meds...I just had to totally change my diet. If it tastes good....I'm pretty much not allowed to eat it. I live on boiled/grilled chicken and plain rice. Even plain yougurt makes me sick to my stomach.

John had serious colitis once caused by too many antibiotics. Finally diagnosed as C-diff. He had to take some long term vancomycin to cure it. It was some kind of awful. Constant diarrhea along with two stage 4 wounds on his butt. Just plain horrible.

Hi Lucky,

I was 28 when I had Ulcerative Colitis. I developed complications because of steroid intake that made me autoimmune. This led to a tb granuloma that lodged into the spine. For me its the other way around where UC had a hand that led to my being a SCI patient. UC somehow decreases calcium in the body so try to take supplements to make your bones stronger. I am now an ostomate because my colon became megatoxic.
