damn, and I was looking forward to having an excuse to wear a skirt! Guess, I'll just claim I'm Scottish when I wear one from now on.

Dave, you still get to wear a grass skirt, but no coconut bra. I'll tape a broom too your head and everyone gets LEID!!!!!!! Um, I mean gets a Lei :P

Would jeans, teeshirt and sandals be ok Hapa :P oh, and a scrunchy for my ponytail. I'll bring my better half as well, plus the Tequila, limes, salt and shot glasses, if you don't mind :drunk:
BTW I'll bring my camera also, Dave in a grass skirt and coconuts...priceless :muahaha:

Oh hell yeah!! :w00t: I know you got some good tequila! :dunno: Clothing optional. In fact, I've been known to walk outside naked. We do have those 6 ft. retainer walls. However, my neighbor on the east side who mows his grass every fricken day, tends to pop his head up when he's cleaning the top of his chiminea.

Oh BTW, I'll be taping the entire luau b/c I know with all that liquor, everyone will be wearing a coconut bra by the end of the evening or start of the morning depending on how long you can hang. :yahoo:

Last pool party we had lasted until about 3am, the misses and I were the last to zzzzzzzzzzz.

A bottle of 24yr old Anjeno, a few sunrises, a bottle of Merlot and a Guiness or two later I was still sittin kinda straight...didn't fall out my chair I think...so hangin with ya won't be a prob, my sore arse might be tho :muahaha:
As for the dress code, optional is my preferred state...goofy I am, bashful...nope :drunk:

What can I say? YES! But I'm a desert rat at heart (lived in beautiful So Cal for about 26 years).

I say bring on Global Warming (instead of the Global Freezing we seem to be getting?) and let Seattle become the desert it deserves to be!!! B)

I love the Midwest...if we aren't ducking and covering because of the 'twisters,or we are stuck inside with no power because of ice storms or funny things called thunder snow storms, or having heat waves that cause overloads of power grid and 75% humidity,or floods because of the same systems that bring the twisters. I guess it could be worse at least we don't have hurricanes....

well, unless the remnants of one blows up from Texas causing floods and twisters.

I forgot the new madrid fault that has produced 4 of the largest earthquakes in recorded history.

Yasko.... I don't get your point...? First you implied that you were liking the rainy weather, then you post some pics of mountains (south of Seattle on a very rare and clear day) that look like those from Mt. Shasta, Mt. Lassen, and other parts of beautiful California... But they don't show anything about clouds or rain that I got the impression you like...?

How about some beautiful pics of the rain? And the babes in birkenstocks, white socks, and gray sweats in their Subarus? Yowza!

It was just a little jest... :swordfight:

:) I was thinking about doing this with all my Tori Amos live bootleg CDs. I have hundreds. I used to be a huge fan, and I have literally have those big black CD binders full of CDs in a big disorganized mess. I haven't even listened to 90% of those shows.

Does anyone know where I can download Microsoft Word for a Mac for free?

Mimi,
Forget Microsoft Office go here and download the full suite for free.
http://www.openoffice.org/
It does everything that MS office does and is fully compatible with Word ie you can read and save in Word format.

Oh, cool, thanks Geoff! :lmao: What I think it total bullshit is that Macbooks no longer come with any kind of word program! My old iBook, which I bought in 2006, had Appleworks in it. Now, I guess because Apple wants you to buy either iWork or Microsoft Office, they don't put Appleworks in. All it comes with is the equivalent of a Notepad type thing called Text Editor. I LOVE my new laptop (even though I wish I didn't have to have my garage 'renovated' and my buddy buy it as a guilt present  ) and I love Macs in general but still. No word program is annoying.

Actually text editor may not look like much but it is more than adequate. Saying that i do have iwork, primarily for presentations.

+1 for openoffice, er, rather against Micro$haft! :) I downloaded it a few weeks ago and it seems pretty close to "the real thing."

I'm really tired of the way Micro$haft (and others) force obsolescence of computers and software!!!

Anyone know anything about Linux? I really need to experiment with it (on my PC), but I don't have any idea which version I should try....

I use OpenSuse. It is easy to install and use (although there is a bit of a learning curve if you want to "get under the hood"). During the install you can choose to have it run alongside your Windows on the same hard disk if you want. You just choose which you want at startup. It will not affect you Windows system in any way.

Another option is to download a "Live CD" . This allows you to play with it without it installing anything on yout hard drive. It runs entirely from the CD. This also has the option of installing as above if you decide to do so. Just be aware that you will be downloading a CD or DVD "image" that you'll have to burn onto a disk(s) before you can install.

I was cut my teeth on Windows and have never really got past the point and click mentallity so anyone with the same limited knowledge should be quite at home with OpenSuse.

Hope that helps

I have used many linux distros and by far the easiest is unbuntu 9.04. Easy install, most drivers were included (with the exception of my wireless card). Making a dual boot system is very simple.

For the unititiated: Dual-boot means having two or more different operating systems on your hard drive, usually Windows and one of the Linux offerings, and you choose which to load at startup.

Not having a wireless card driver is a but of a steep hill to climb for a Linux newby. That's why it is probably best for them to start with a Live CD. Kubuntu would be my choice over Ubuntu. PCLinuxOS is another good one

There are dozens of Linux flavours to choose from; most very similar, and although running from a CD is going to be a bit slow, at least they can pick one they feel comfortable with before the need to install anything. I've not come across one yet that doesn't allow a dual-boot set up.

Wow, glad to have found some folks that can help!

I do need to "get under the hood" in depth... I am a software developer and must constantly update my software to install on all versions of an OS (various versions of Windows only, thus far...). Vista was a huge PITA. :chef: I hear there shouldn't be any issues with 7.... So I'll hold my breath? :lmao:

Not.

I need to know if there's a version of Linux that is likely to allow my Visual Basic software to run... And I would really like to find a Linux version that would allow me to develop in Visual Basic for the foreseeable future (It is believed that I can do so through 7 with M$, but nothing mentioned for Micro$haft's plans beyond...).

Any suggestions or contacts for me now?

Many thanks! :toast:
