Hi everyone, I am new to this forum and wanted some advise about travelling to and around China,
I don't have a spinal injury, but have cerebral palsy, chronic asthma and other asthma-related problems.
My husband (who is partially sighted and has ataxia) and I are planning to go on holiday with a able-bodied friend to China the Autumn. This tour includes:
Sanghai
Suzhou
Xian and Terracotta Army
Chengdu
Wolong Nature Reserve
Yangtze Gorge Cruise
Beijing
The Great Wall
I have to use a wheelchair for longer distances as I can't walk too far. My husband and I have difficulty with steps and rough/uneven ground.
Has any visited China? Can you share your good/bad experiences ?
We would be grateful for any advice and look forward to your reply.
Kind Regards
Visiting China

Hubby & I traveled to China (Beijing) about three years ago. Just know that China is not very accessible, however, the Chinese people (in my personal opinion) are very very helpful - this can be a bad thing or a good thing. Everywhere hubby and I went people wanted to "help" us or push us in our wheelchairs. This got kind of annoying after a while - however, sometimes it was nice, such as loading our chairs into taxi's and also getting them out. You could always count on a group of people willing to come to our aid, to help us load up our chairs - I thought that was great.
So, basically don't expect curb cuts, ramps or for that matter any accessible taxi's. The Chinese people are great, however they are not used to seeing disabled people out and about (this once again is just my little observation) so, be prepared to get lots of stares.
Oh, and welcome to the forum!
