I catheterize myself every few hours (or when needed) with an external cath. I've found that they're getting quite expensive! (I pay on my own)

anyway, I was wondering if any of you know of any companies that take online orders? or something along those lines...

There are sites out there you just have to do a lot of searching to find ones supply companies that have what you want and take self pay... Here is the company I use in a pinch if I need urological supplies, and they have a selection which is a bonus!!

In addition to this site, I would recommend that you ask your urologist or nephrologist (or whoever the heck you see) and see if they ever get samples from the drug company reps. If they don't, you could ask your doctor if they would ask the reps if they could get you some. You might be surprised.........some doctors are very generous with the samples while others are tight as a tick!! I am lucky and have a great doctor.

I use Medline to deliver my caths.

Totally all about the free shit.

I was at the doctor like 2 months ago.. and gave me this huge kit of doctor sterile fun stuff,. scissors, guaze, tweezers, gloves, cath, a mask.. All so I could get out the cath and fill the cup for them..

So they left the room before me,,, and my friend Rosz and I went to town on the toys. We shoved them ALL in the pocket of my cushion. I went and peed in the cup, went back to room and waited. When I got back.. They asked me for something. I dont know what it was.. a note or peice of paper... The thing was.. it was already in the bottom of that same pocket. Without thinking I went to pull it out and all this shit I jacked fell out and onto the floor. It was halerious. My docs even cracked up. Then they gave me a bunch of stupid shit to take home. Havetn touched any of it since.

Ches, hehe  --hellarious!

I told a rep that I'm new to all this and wasn't sure which caths I wanted to commit to. They sent me a total of about 50 caths, 5 different styles.

I guess you can go online and hit up a few different suppliers this way.

I didn't know about these sites (and companies) geez, a little research goes a long way. All I use to do was go to the only place in town, and their prices are ridiculous compared to some of these.

Oh, and 'in the wind' I did mean external. Y'know the one time use.

Talk about expensive........I used to use MENTOR brand. Then, COLOPLAST bought out MENTOR. The price of a box of 30 went from $34 USD to $65 USD. I know somebody's making some obscene money!

We generally refer to these types of catheters as "intermittent" since they are not in constant use. "External" would indicate a device that sucked the pee out through your skin. :)

If you're in the US, try the Monroe Home Care Shoppe.

The intermittent caths are here about half-way down the page. I don't know how they compare price-wise because my insurance pays for mine.

Or if you were referring to a condom cath, they are usually referred to as "external".

Another place to check though is Express Medical Supplies

Just google medical supplies , catheters or something along these lines and you will get a ton of sites that provide urological products. I have used many sites to order medical supplies , however the once I order from regularly are http://www.athomemedical.com/ and allegromedical. For external catheters the web is a lot cheaper than local suppliers , for example I use Holister external catheters and the difference in price is at least a $1 per unit cheaper compared to local local suppliers and if you use 30 units per month that is least 30 Dollars in savings.

good luck.

I find it unbelievable that some of you have to pay for your catheters. Mine are supplied free of charge and I thought that was the same for everyone no matter where you live. I personally think it is a disgrace for those who have to pay. That is just my opinion.

I was having a real hard time getting the caths i needed. I have a suprapubic cath, but this company specializes in all types of urology equip. One of my pca's saw a commercial on tv and he wrote down the number for me. It took me about 6mo to call them because I didn't think they would be any diff. than the rest of the med supply companies, but they were. I called told them what I needed "leg bags, caths, and extension tubes" they told me they would see if they could get it and they'd call in a week. 2 weeks went buy and they never called. I fugured they couldn't help, a few days later a 3mo supply of everything I needed showed up at my door. My ins. wouldn't pay for any of the things I needed at my local drug store so I was paying for them. This company faught with my ins. company and got me what I needed. You can visit their site at liberatormedical.com or call 800-754-5919. This comp. is awesome, every 3mo I get exactly what i need and I don't have to do a thing. I would have saved my self alot of money if I called when my aide gave me the number.

I get 150 caths a month delivered to the front door from a local med company that I know the owner of. They ship nationally and are all around great guys. He's in a chair(double amputee) and employee's several para's. They provide supplies to a lot of wheelchair athletes in the US and are one of the larger contributors to USA wheelchair basketball and provide prize money for the national tourney every year.

There are plenty of places out there that will take medicare/caid for your supplies and not charge you even your 20%

$175-200 per month is what I end up paying for all of my supplies. Catheters, lube, gloves, baby wipes, and throw in the Depends and Im right around $200.

The reason I pay for Condom catheters because medicaid only pays for cheap brands . And I use Hollister brand condom catheters which are not covered by medicaid because of the extra cost.
