OK Im off to Vegas in September, already know where Im staying,.. and I have some friends who do shows there, so some entertainment is taken care of..Ive never been there in a chair though. And despite how short that "Strip" looks I remember everything was sooo grand that getting here to there always took a few minutes..

Im way lazy. Hate dealing with rough terrain and will avoid obstacles at all cost.

Any advice to help a lazy para?

Hi Ches

Being a fellow T4 and a lazy B let me know how you get on in Las Vagas. The G/F and I would like to visit and feedback from someone who has been in a chair would be good.
If I fall out of my wheelchair in the woods would anybody hear me?

I went in a chair. Can't remember obstacles - it's all concrete and plastic including the people. But I know you'll have fun Ches, it's just not my kinda place. I'll be tactful by not mentioning the word fake.

I went there in February 2007 for my sister's wedding. I thought of it as a DISNEYLAND FOR ADULTS!! And, you are right about that strip looking small, but it's really Looooooong!! I'm lazy too, albeit not in a chair, but mobility challenged. We ended up taking LOTS of cabs. Not cheap, but beat the hell out of the bus system which took forever. I had a blast and want to go back any chance I get. Have fun....I'm jealous!

Travelled to LV some years ago from Glacier NP, Montana . . . talk about a culture shock!

Managed two days, but it wasn't really our scene . . . we were quite pleased to finally be able to pick up a rental car and head east into Utah and the desert! The in-your-face excess, and disgraceful waste of food in the buffet lounges just left a really poor impression on us.

Access was good in LV thanks to all the new developments. We don't mind "walking", so distances weren't an issue. We must have wheeled the full length of the Strip five or six times in two days. I won enough money on the blackjack tables to pay for the two nights!

I went for a trip at the end of June I felt it was very easy to get around. My only complaint was the casinos and the carpet everywhere.
I stayed at the Excalibur.
Only went for a long roll down the strip on day.
I found the buses to be really easy to take, you can take the Deuce it goes up and down the strip and is only 5 bucks for the day.
I ended up also taking the bus down town to Fremont street and hit the premium outlet malls with the wife again not problem. Went to 2 show and they where great.

Hi Ches,
Depending on which end of the strip you are staying there is also the mono rail which links a lot of it together down the airport end. It is serviced by elevators and avoids the heat this time of the year. The trip also has elevated walkways across it and there are elevators but at points they can be a little hard to find. As also mentioned the Deuce runs the full length of the strip and is roll on roll off. It runs every 10 minutes or so. Carpet is a problem but mainly in the casinos. Places like the Venetian which is a must is stone floored as are most of the main public areas.

Vegas is very flat. So not a lot of "rough" terrain. They also have elevators across the large intersections (however, sometimes locating them can be tricky). The crowds on the other hand are sometimes annoying (just remember if a polite 'excuse me' doesn't work a quite hit to the shins works well too ... hee hee). Pretty much everything in Vegas is accessible. Hubby & I like to stay at the Venetian (very accessible & who doesn't love a fake Venice?), but we're going in August for a friends bachelor party and are staying at the MGM Grand Signature - I'll have to report on how accessible the hotel is - from the looks of it, it looks quite nice. Have fun Ches ... to bad we're not going to be there at the same time! It would have been fun to hang out.

Oh yeah and the carpet ... f that indeed. Hubby hates it! We've found that sometimes they have marble type flooring skirting around the casino and he'll stick to that or just take lots of brakes while pushing.

Tisk, Tisk.
So judgemental.
They're not plastic. They're anxiety ridden flotsom languishing on a sea of dispair. Bless their hearts.
The strip's flat, fairly short, but sometimes crowded as hell.
I know a killer taco place. Buck apiece. Let me if yer into it.
Don't loiter in the same place for too long. Cops might think you're a hooker and hassle you.

At the time, my mind was so agitated with fear and loathing that what I saw was psychotically splayed geriatric obesity lurching on a path to self destruction.

And yes, my judgement is a curse. Such rigid thinking prevents me from having the flexibility to enjoy myself in such a place. My loss. But you might find me happily playing in the nearby desert.

Good luck with Vegas!!! I absolutely love Vegas and have been there several times over the past few years. We've stayed at Mandalay Bay, the Monte Carlo, Treasure Island, Paris and the Bellagio. All are great for accessability. The carpets in the casinos sucks, but, maybe a friend can push you through the casinos. They seem to be never ending!! The mono rail is great, you just need to be able to find the stations! Have fun!!! I don't know of too many cities where you can buy margaritas by the yard!!

Hey Ches~ Did you go yet? I went last year and hand a blast! I didn't gamble a penny, but just looking around is fun. I would like to go back with my boy so getting a wheelers oppion would be great. He hates carpet, but too stubborn to let me push. I don't want it to be like an athletic event for him when were there to relax. I remember the crowds be insane., bulldoze a few of them for me LOL :yahoo:

I hope you have a great time! :)
