i have been on and off foley for 17 yrs. since i have a tendency to sit to my left side, the foley startse to irritate urinary tract causing terrible sweating. urologist says bladders too small for supra pubic and i leak terrible on intermittent sc, not to mention my hand doesn.t work great. he wants me to have urinary bypass where they reroute intestines to side and you have an appliance GLUED to your skin and attatched to a bag. sounds horrible and it's a last resort. anyone familiar?

I'm curious about this as well. I had an artificial sphincter fitted 12 years ago but had to have it removed because it got infected. I've been discussing the possibility of having another fitted with my urologist, but after surgery 2 weeks ago she told me that I have a number of strictures and it might not be possible to fit another sphincter. She suggested a bypass but it would differ from that mentioned in that my bladder would be rerouted to an opening in my abdomen which I would use for SIC. I really don't fancy this as I'm a bit squeamish about open wounds...even a supra pubic makes me queasy! I'd be interested to hear from anyone who's had a similar procedure.
