We think my husband might have a hernia. Have any of you males out there had one since sci? I thought it was from heavy lifting. He does have bad spasms so i don't know. Just thought i'd ask.

If that were true then how would babies get them? I think it's possible. I'm no expert on the subject, but it seems to me that hernias can be caused by a lack of muscle in the stomach area, which keeps the intestine from bulging.

You could probably get a hernia from pushing out a BM, to turning in your bed at night . . . sounds like a trip to the doctors couldn't hurt.

I was recently diagnosed with a hernia and believe it to be the result of heavy lifting, which I have been doing a lot of lately at work. The doctor said that they can be caused by a variety of things, including BM strain and transfer to and from vehicles. He also said that surgery is optional, although recommended because hernias left untreated can lead to complications down the road, though they may pose no immediate problem.

I've had hernia probably caused by a lot of exercise and I believe from my previous abdomen surgery as well, and had to do emergency hernia surgery in 2006 after intestines become trapped outside the abdomen! Doctor had to install Hernia Mash into my abdomen to keep me from getting it again. So far I am doing OK, but have to be careful with lifting heavy weights. Good luck!
