Hi there,

Just a quick question about purchasing a new car...
Back about 5yrs ago I was buying my first car I was told that if I buy brand new (as opposed to 2nd hand) then I didn't have to pay tax on it (or got the tax back). I don't know what scheme that was under, but I'd love to know if anyone else has heard of such an arrangement or taken advantage of it?

Any thoughts/experiences?

This is in NSW, AU by the way.

Hi,
You can get a GST exemptoin if you meet a few criteria. My brother has just got his through to buy a second hand car he can adapt to hand controls.

Takes a while to get approved so give it at least 6 weeks!
