I am so frustrated right now. I have yet another UTI and no one will help me. Okay, maybe I'm over-reacting as I'm a little upset and ranty right now, but doesn't it just feel like that sometimes. I've been taking that D-Mannose to try to ward them off but everytime I get my period (sorry if that's a little personal, but considering most of what we talk about on this board, I think not), I get a UTI. The rest of the time I'm fine. So I tried to call my doctor today to get some cipro. She and her nurse are used to the drill, so I usually call, say I have a uti and they will send a prescription for cipro down to my pharmacy. Well, my doctr's nurse is on vacation and I cannot speak with my doctor directly, so I have to deal with front desk staff. Why are those girls so rude and unhlpful. She basically told me that if I didn't come in tomorrow, I would have to go to urgent care as my doctor is booked up completely until August 6th when she leaves for vacation until the 13th. Well, I can't come in, I have a little thing called a job and it would be impossible to take tomorrow off on such short notice. I asked the front desk girl if she could speak to my doctor, that the doctor usually just sends out a prescription for me as my uti's are so recurrent and I know when I have one. But no, she would have none of it. She just kept telling me to go to urgent care. If I go to urgent care, I'll end up waiting for five hours just to get my cipro. I can't go to the doctors because of work, when can I find those extra five hours laying around to sit in a waiting room? I'm just at a loss as to what to do. I obviously cannot wait until the 13th to get medicine, but I teach summer school and cannot miss any days this week as this is the last week and we are doing A LOT in class. So frustrating, then add on top of it that I feel like shit, well, it's just perfect. Sorry for the rant, but I'm just upset. Hopefully, some of this made sense and didn't sound like the ravings of a mad woman.

Do what I do.........wait until after hours when they have the answering service and they will page (hopefully YOUR doctor) and she will call you to see what the problem is. Then ask her to call the pharmacy and fill a script for cipro. Don't wait too late for the pharmacy might be closed.
Or, have your doc the next time you are there, write a scrip for cipro with refills to be used for when you have these recurrent UTI's. Some will do it, some won't.
Good luck and I hope you feel better. I know how miserable they can be.

Thanks for the suggestions, I might try one of those. It's funny how ingenius we must become to get what we need, isn't it?

Hows it goin' Eleanorigby?
I had a UTI recently and carried a sterile urine cup at home (just in case someone I know needed to take it to the doctors without transporting me along for the ride). Last time, though, the Dr's gave me a hard time and NEEDED me to COME in myself as per their new policy. All patients need to sign in person their entry forms for insurance purposes.
More and more red tape needs to be unravelled just to get basic care nowadays. Guess it's all the lawsuits hospitals are trying to protect themselves from. But it hurts those of us who live our lives around our disabilities, and look for convenience in healthcare, not inconvenience!

I really have no clue how it's going to be honest. I still have recieved no treatment, but half the time I'm not sure I need it. Usually I know when I have a UTI and I was 99% sure I had one. But I think because I started taking these super cranberry pills, drink a lot of water, take D-Mannose, take vitamin C, and workout and eat healthy on a daily basis, I may have subdued it. I know you can't cure a UTI without antibiotics, but it's like it just went away. I still want to see my doctor however. I'm debating whether I should wait until she gets back from vacay or pursue other alternatives. I just hater her office staff though, they are so incompetant and seem to have no compassion whatsoever. They are incredibly unhelpful and never get refills or test results back in a timely fashion. Then I'll call them up and they have the results and they just had forgotten or something. Most doctor's offices seem to run this way though. Why do they hire such stupid girls? Sorry for the mini-rant again!

I feel exactly the same way about my doctors office, AND my Doc!! I always have to call THEM back regarding test results, or anything else, and sometimes multiple times before getting a reply. I'm right there with ya!!
