There was a post here ages ago about a rugby injury. Well, the post was about my friend and I am pleased to say that now, just over 2 months since his injury, he is able to propel himself in a wheelchair for 5 metres - slowly inch by inch. He cannot as yet feed himself but that is another goal. He weards pads on his hands to stimualte the muscles.

The next goal is feeding himself -= the next one out for Christmas. He has had a few short trips out and is hoping to go to the Scotland rugby game on Nov 26.

Good news at last.

Thanks Wheelie - however, it is the physios who have put him in a manual chair. Dont know whether this will be for all time or whether he will get an electric one of his own. The important factor just now is alternative housing instead of a flat. Dont know how long that will take in the good old UK.

Great news.. an inch a day etc etc. I remember when I was first put in a manual chair (big old heavy nasty thing) & I could only push it about a metre just didn't have the arm strength. It also caused me too much pain so after battling with it for many weeks/months I gave up & used a power chair but I still try & do weights etc.

From these small beginnings (I couldn't feed myself either) you'll be amazed what a year or two under his belt will do so keep up the great support & don't let him give up or get down. Gotta get the best out of his situation.

Good news, its nice to have updates. I'm c4 complete from a rugby injury, so can't push myself, use a chin controlled electric chair. Good luck to him for the future, where was he injured, England, Wales, Scotland?

Hello rugby fans,

I am a wales rugby fan (although we are not doing to well at the mo.) and my partner is english so he obviously supports england. I would dearly love to run over his feet with my wheelchair but mine is manual and i have problems using my arms.
I also find it a nuisance having to rely on folk to push me around and there is such a waiting list with rockwood to get chairs in the first place.
So i guess i will have to wait untill i can run his toes over next time he makes snide remarks about the welsh rugby team, lol.

Hope your mate carries on improving and is able to feed himself soon...

Lots of love

Michelle

Michelle
Don't feel too down about Wales, they won the 6 nations last year!
Pity Gavin Henson had to mouth off in his autobiog about team mates, its affected them.
Get an electric chair and run over your boyfriends feet, that'll hurt (and I'm English too)!

Hi Simon,
I haven't read gavins book. maybe his golden boots have gone to his head. Or are they silver boots? I can't remember, the tablets are affecting my memory today, lol.
If i get the electric chair (sounds like i have commited a crime) I will run over the old mans feet and tell him that this english bloke told me to do it,lol.
