Help!
I broke my back in 1996 and became confined to a w/c (T5 complete). At this time the 'flip flow' method of bladder management was not in operation. I was fitted with a supra pubic catheter which was on free drainage and subsequently my bladder tone was lost and my bladder shrank. I was given a 'Clam Cystoplasty' (Bladder augmentation) to enlarge my bladder using part of my bowel. It was reccommended that I had a Mitrofanoff operation to aliviate my frequent bladder leaks. This went really well and I am able to catheterise 4-5 times daily. Approx every 2hrs. Unfortunately however, these frequent bladder leaks have turned into frequent bowel leaks meaning I am afraid to go out as they can happen at ANY time. Also, if my bladder gets too full I have a bowel movement too, and I fear staying at friends/relatives, or doing anything?!* I started taking loperamide to stop this, but it bulked me up too much making me constipated and had to take Movicol to clear the compacted stool. I have spoken with my consultant who told me that I must wait for things to heal. This was nearly 3 months ago! Has anyone been through this operation and had these problems and can suggest something to help me out, as I am thoroughly pissed off of having my partner clean me up (She is my partner not my P.A.) and bored of being stuck in the house?
Thanks,

Sam

Hi there. Have you any answers yet? I too have the problem that If I TRY AND HOLD ON FOR A PEE which is not long as I cant it often results in me needing a poo as well. Like you I suppose the bladder is full leading to the need to empty bowels aS WELL. I also find I pee more after having the said poo...do you have this and does anyoe know the reasons? Thanks Take Care
