For the past few days, I haven't been having much urine output, even though I haven't changed the amount of liquid I drink. I usually drink about 60 oz during the day and about 28 oz during the night. I have started taking lasix because my legs have been swelling. Is there such a thing as urinary constipation?? What could be causing this?

Alot of times, it depends on what i drink as oppossed to how much, and on my mood...alot of OJ in the morning and being uptight means i'll be cathing every 2 hours most of the day. And on other days, if im relaxed and drink water, i'll cath every 4 hours and wont have much at all.

I've never heard of urinary constipation, is the lasix helping the swelling yet?

This happens to my husband all the time! We never know why. He will chug water allllll day and have little output. A lot of times he will have to pee a lot when he gets into bed. Weird.

It also depends on the type of liquids you are drinking. Are you consuming caffeine or drinks with high levels of sodium in them (soft drinks)? Sometimes, that fluid can be utilized in the bowels as well. If your bowel output is not good, or if you have difficulty with it, I'd suggest upping your water intake and decreasing other fluids for a little while and see what happens. If you are on lasix, you should probably discuss this with your doctor.
Good Luck!

That's an easy one - happens to me and a few other higher injuries (above T6) I know. I'll bet your husband has low blood pressure which affects the output of the kidneys, while sitting up the blood pressure is reduced and kidney output is reduced. At night when he lays flat his blood pressure increases and his kidney output increases thus meaning he pees more when he gets into bed.

As to the OP I'd agree with getting a kidney function check ASAP

I've noticed this mostly on hot days. I'm not sure why that is since I don't sweat nearly as much as I did when I was AB. Hopefully it's nothing, but yeah, call the Dr.

Thanks for all your input! I was to the dr. and we decided to increase the lasix for now ad he will get blood work done soon. I do have low blood pressure, so that could be the reason. Thanks again to all!

hi

it might have something to do with the amount of orange juice you are drinking. I love pure orange juice and used to drink at least 1 litre of it a day, but when I went to my GP because of a UTI I think, she said that drinking too much orange juice could actually increase the problems that you can get with bladders, so now I can only drink a maximum of 200 mls a day.

So maybe it is worth decreasing the amount of pure orange juice that you drink, and trying it for a while before thinking about something more drastic?

It's worth a try at least I guess :D
