I posted this once already in th "Sports" catagory and I should have posted this a while ago, but here it is again. Thought more people might see it in here instead. Was just really hoping to get as many people as possible to check this it out and help support the cause. This a good friend of mine so check it out, follow along, and send support his way. It's people like him that I have been fortunate to meet that inspire me everyday, helps give me that extra little push I need (we all need sometimes) to try to do anything and everything I can, with anything and everything I have, wherever I am, and with any situation that life puts before me.

Darol Kubacz, a good friend of mine I met in Phoenix a while ago who has been injured for (I think) 14 years now, and a team of dedicated individuals are trying to make history by crossing Africa and climbing to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro all under his own power. Please visit his blog atfflblogg.blogspot.com/ for details and to find out how to help support and follow along wih this record-breaking climb. Visit the Freedom For Life web site for other information on what he and others are doing to make mobility more successful and able for everyone at Freedom For Life. It's people like him that I have been fortunate to meet that inspire me everyday, help give that extra little push to try to do anything and everything I can, with whatever I have, wherever I am and with any situation that life puts before me.

Here is a quote from his latest blog.

"August 13, 2008
From 15,400' Kevin Cherilla reports excellent progress for the team thus far. The team is moving into the most difficult section of Kilimanjaro. Darol will use the the One-Off climber with large wheels so he can navigate the loose Scree. The climber is also equipped with a hand powered winch so he can crank himself up the steep vertical sections. The very last section of the climb will be completed with the use of a rescue device designed by Skedco. Darol will lay on his back and crank his body to the summit. Robert French, Darol's team doctor celebrated his 40th Birthday yesterday. Robert and the team enjoyed Birthday cake sent by his girlfriend Gabriel."

I attached a couple of pic's from his site, 1st of their training, 2nd the most reccent as he is in his attempt now. Hope you allow enjoy, get inspired, root for, and follow him along.

I DID reply to this post, I know. Where'd my reply go? Probably my own fault, too!!!

Anyway, what6 I meant to say was, I have had the pleasure of meeting Darol when he moved in across the street from me. I am so thrilled to know he is trying Kilimanjaro again, and this time may he " kick butt"!! My thoughts and pryers go with him. :drunk:

Quick update...

HE MADE IT! There is a recording of his call from the top on his blog and you can hear how winded he is. Here's a quote from his blog and if the link below, "hear," for the voice recording doesn't work, use the above link I've posted to go directly to the blog to listen. Go to the blog anyways and just leave a comment to give congradulations.

18,400' and the final summit for the team. Darol has climbed as far as his strength and equipment will take him. You can hear how heavy his breathing is from the altitude. Darol would have never made it without the love, support and encouragement from friends and family."

Yeah i have been reading about this in the news, as i have been doing research for my own climb of the mount kilimanjaro in 2010 for my gap year. I dont intend on attempting to beat his record tho, i heard that afterwards he suffered from sever exhaustion how is he recovering afterwards? Can i also enquire about what kind of chair he is using i was planning on going up in a trekinetic, but was wondering if there were certain things about his chair that made it especially suitable or things about it that made it very difficult?
