Hey, I am complete T5 para who has completely tore up my urethra doin int caths every four hours. I have just had a superpubic put in but am having spells of autonomic dysreflexia evey half an hour lasting for around four minuites each time. Any clues as to what I can do?

That will happen sometimes with me. I think what might be happening is when the hose runs down your leg it may be backing up a little. If you look at the hose, is there urine by the catheter? I lean forward and push the pee down. That works for me. When the girls put it on they like t6o get all the urine out of the hose and into the bag. If you push the pee down or move the hose lower it should work. Also, do you have a leg strap that holds the catheter by your knee?

Hi Craig,

If you have only just had the catheter put in, the AD symptoms could be from the wound site. You may find you get this until the wound site has healed a little.

If the wound site is irritating the bladder, causing it to go into spasm, and thus giving you the AD symptoms, then ask your urologist about medication to relax the bladder wall a little.

Thanks for the suggestions I will definatly try the leg bag strap and break out the doralese!
