Hi, does anyone know of any exercise that can be safely performed by people with SCI, to strengthen the stomach muscles to aid in the passing of motion?

Can push ups and situps be performed?

Most exercises are likely to be safe, as to whether you can do sit ups will depend on you level and motor function. Push ups are likely to be good for strengthening your arms but not much else I think.

Hi. Here is a movement rather than an exercise: Palm on stomach, perform circular motions starting from bottom right ( your right ) and start motion applying only light pressure; hard pressure by your hand(flat palm) will not move the bowels any better.Perform this a couple times daily-try when getting up in the morning. And when you ARE having a BM , perform this "exercise" while "on the potty" to fully eliminate the waste. Deep full breathing makes our inner muscles work more properly to PUSH the wastes out. Good luck!
