Hi Manda "forget about it" it's just something that happened and isn't worth a mark on a calender. Celebrate every day that you're here there will be things through out your life that will remind you of the time before when you walked. The sooner you let it slip in to the recesses of your mind the better. Make your own reason for being don't wait for a sign life is to short don't waste it, take care.

The anniversary isnt important. Unless you're celebrating being alive. I had a party on the 1 year mark. We called it the resurrection and I referred to myself as Jesus all night. Was alot better than sitting around being sad, plus it gave me and my peeps a reason to have a good time.
I cant really understand how the date is important to most. A year, a month , a week. It all hurts the same right?
If anything.....remember the date to chart your progress, not your loss.
Take care, and hang in there!

Everyone here fights or has fought with the same kinds of feelings you're fighting with now. I also find it hard around "the anniversary": that's when all the 'what if?' thoughts are most likely to come up. It doesn't sound like you're pitying yourself, by the way: it sounds like you're going through what many of us do.
But Ches and Long Haul are right - it's better to focus on the future than the past. You will get your life back on track for you and for your son.

I'm with Ches on this one. I had my one day in April and posted a thread saying that my family and I celebrated it by having all you can eat hot wings.
Things may be hard....but your 2nd year post will be A LOT easier than your first....things with only get better!
Good luck.

I just had my 15 year on Sept. 13th. I feel like it is just another day, but it's everyone else that always brings up the oh, this is the day of your accident huh stuff. I always say, no my day was in 93 and I hope today brings no accident. Time always seems to make things better.

Congrats on your 1yr milestone Manda. I've just celebrated my 25th year of SCI as I've done since year 1.
Personally I do think it is a significant day to remember. We celebrate on our birth date, & I recognise my life in a chair as my 2nd life, albeit very different from my walking days. Don't ponder on what-ifs, rejoice in the fact that you are here with abundant new challenges ahead.
