Sled Hockey Adaptions (newbie) Looking for some information about sled hockey. Rate Topic: -----

My boyfriend is a c-5/6 quadriplegic, with no hand function and very limited tricept movement.
and we were wondering what sort of adaption's there are for sled hockey, such as strap in systems,
adapeded hockey gloves to hold the stick, and so on.

Have him contact Northeast Passage adaptive sports program ( http://www.nepassage.org ) or the New England Bruins sled hockey team ( http://www.sledhockey.org ). They will have that info. I can help you out there. I play sled hockey and we have some high level injuries on the beginner team.

First, do you have your own sled or are you using a team sled? Are you looking to buy one and wondering where to go? Does he hold his own sticks or are you looking for that too?

Were looking into it, so basically where to go, geting a sled, and information like that.Also a adapeted stick.
He hasn't tryed playing or anything, so were basically seeing if it's a sport he could play,
we also heard that u need some tricepts, he has vary little to no tricepts.

The short answer is yes he can still play. I have played against people with no triceps and it is possible. I will PM you with more details and we can go over things that way. I love hockey and helping people get going in the sport.

I tried sledhockey for the first time yesterday and it was the coolest game ever :censored: but today my body was killing me. Only trouble i had was with getting back up after falling on my side, any tips for that?

Unfortunatly thats just one of those things that takes time and muscle to do. I remember starting sled hockey and I was tired from getting up alone, cause it takes muscles and they burn out easily it seemed. After you do it several times though it does get easier.

There are a couple things that can make it slightly easier...
1) If you have the leather like gloves they slide on the ice easier than the cloth type gloves. The cloth type gloves make getting up much easier, I used to have the cloth type and now have the leather type and harder getting up but using your hand on the ice doesnt slow you down on turns, etc like the cloth types does (althoug slow down is minor).

2) If you have the leather type gloves, try to open your hand a bit so your pushing up from the palm of your hand and not from a fist position. This way the palm of your gloves contacts a little bit and will give you more leverage than the smooth leather like outside on the fist part of your hand.

Otherwise just takes practice and remember the better you get the less you fall over too!
