Injured since 1992. I had a huge "osteochondroma" which is a bone growth that happens in some SCI patients. Mine was located in my pelvis area and caused a lot of muscle irritation and severe spasms. That was 5 years ago. I had to have it surgicaly removed and radiated to prevent cancer. (Low incidence, but possible)

Now I am having a return of multiple osteo chondromas. The spasms literally keep me awake all night so that I am totally sleep deprived. Baclofen doesn't even begin to touch the spasms.

The doctor said these cannot be removed, that the spasms are the result of muscle irritation and inflammation. He said nothing could be done other than to take anti-inflammatry meds...which aren't working.

I am on the verge of going crazy...I don't feel much pain, although there is some, but the spasms are so violent that my wife has to sleep in another room and I get NO sleep (that is why I am at the computer at 1 AM right now) . They happen every 15 seconds or so.

Does aanyone have a simliar experience? Any ideas as to what I can do?

Thanks,
CHarlie

Hi, my husband takes valium daily to stop spasms. Baclofen never worked for him. If he doesnt take the valium than he cannot function at all. His legs stay in a constant state of spasm. He takes 10 mg a day and it works great. THe doctors said that the spasms can actually increase the incidence of pressure sores as well.

Thanks for the reply Ashley. I will ask my Doctor about this. I take so much medication now it scares me, but I am willing to try just about anything in order to get these under control.

Thank you!

Hi Chasnh,
They say smoking marihuana really helps. I don't want to make a drug addict of you, but a friend of mine, who just as you suffered from severe spasms, found smoking pot really helpfull. We discovered it together when he visited me in Amsterdam. That's were I live. Although I don't smoke myself, we went to a coffeeshop to smoke and have some fun. After that he noticed that the marihuana actually did a god job on the spasms.

My husband would agree completely although he doesnt smoke anymore. He says that pot is the one and only total spasm relief. :)

Thanks Ashley and Ana,

At 51 years old, it's been a long time since I smoked pot...my 19 and 21 year old boys will probably get a real kick out of it when Pops asks them to procure a little weed...lol

I am going to give it a try.....As I recall, I had better make sure I have plenty of ice cream available............
