I'm Nic, soon to be 29 from Manchester in the UK.

I have Traumatic Tetraplegia as a result of an injury at birth. Although it wasn't actually diagnosed until I was 13.

I was a breech baby but my mum had a "normal" delivery. Saying that, because I was breech I obviously came out feet first and my head and shoulders got stuck. In the end they had to pull me out.

When I finally got my diagnosis (by a nurse at a specialist boarding school I attended) it was explained that my spinal cord had been stretched between c6 and c7. All my sensory nerves are still intact but some of my motor nerves have been affected.

Feel free to ask me anything :blushing02:

Hallo9 welcome to the site. Hope you enjoy, sometime funny sometimes serious. Sorry to hear about your birth problems. I am sure god should have thought of a simpler way to bring us into this place, can cause problems.

Glad you've found the site! I too was disabled at birth. I was born 3.5 months prematurely and suffered bleeding in my spine. I'm an L3/4 incomplete para. Nice to meet another who has been disabled all their life. :D

Thanks. My mum tried to sue the hospital but had no luck. Lack of evidence they said to her. I had an opportunity to try myself before I turned 18 but I didn't as I wasn't sure what I wanted to do with my life. Looking back, I wish I had.

I've never really had the opportunity to talk to other people who have had SCI's at birth. I mean I have friends with other disabilities through complications at birth e.g. CP but the majority of my friends with an SCI have had some kind of accident.

I don't know about you but I find it a lot easier to cope with as I don't know any different. Whereas some of my friends had difficulty adjusting.

Hi Picnic,

I see you've become addicted. Are you ready to admit you are an Apparelyzedaholic?

Welcome to the Asylum as I affectionately call it. I see one looney has posted on this thread, not mentioning any names (STILLFINGERS). JK, he knows I love him.

We like to kid each other and once in a while you'll get some great info and a lot of laughs.

I'm AB, but hubby is a quad. We have a good mix of people here and they are all quite friendly. If there's ever anything you need to ask of someone who is AB that might be too personal to post on the public forum, feel free to PM me.

Take care,

Hapa
