I am so frustrated and now I have just the place to come and vent!
I recently started back to college now that my husband is making a recovery. I went to class this morning only to realize that my teacher is a complete asshole! He said that if we get up during class to answer a cell phone then he will automatically take 5 points off our final grade. Fine and dandy right? Well let me explain the situation.
My husband has a nurse that comes to the house 3 times a week. Our schedules collide so I won't be here when she is around anymore. She has to ask me a lot of questions so sometimes she will call me during class. Also, my husband has doctor's appointments in the morning and he can't drive without a licensed driver yet. He will have to get ready by himself and find someone to drive with him to the doctor. If an emergency arises and let's say he falls (he hasn't adjusted to his injury all the way yet) or if he can't find someone to take him to the doctor he will then call me to come and help/pick him up. Does this make sense?
Anyway, I explain this to teacher and he says "too bad, maybe you shouldn't be in school"...................What an asshole!!!! I'm so pissed off right now. I am trying so hard to juggle everything at once and some prick can't cut me a little break? All I did was tell him that if there is an emergency that I would have to go outside to answer my cell phone. It is very hard for me to ask for any kind of help, so when I do reach out to someone and let them know my situation and I get shot down, it really hurts. I've been crying for an hour now!

:)

inconsiderate.......I want to tell to him..."SIR..WHY DO'NT YOU'LL..TAKE THAT 5 POINTS...AND PUT IT IN YOUR ASS...ALL OF THE ASS."

Tell to him you don't care if you'll take 5 points from your final grade. As long as Bruce is in safe and having communication to him about his situation, 5 points is really doesn't matter to you.And tell to him.."Sir I hope it will not return back to you..what you're doing to me(KARMA)...If it is your happiness taking some points on me...

well let it be!" :)

I am so sorry that your teacher is such a jerk. It amazes me how little compassion there is in the world these days. Just remember that you are a better person for all that you do and the sacrfices that you make. Tell that teacher to shove it up his a**!! Want me to come let the air out of his tires?? LOL
I know what it is to juggle everything. I do that everyday since Andy has been sick. It will get better I promise!

Good luck.... I hope it gets better!

OK...this isn't my forum, really, but I just had to respond to this.

Yep...this teacher should take a few classes himself...Compromising in Special Circumstances. Doesn't he know it's a sign of good mental health to have the capacity to cope in differing situations? :)

I would suggest putting your cell phone on vibrate...when it rings, excuse yourself to go to the bathroom...or does he take points for that too? :)

Frankly, it's none of his business, and as long as you're doing the work required, it shouldn't be an issue.

Perhaps talk with the campus disability counselor...they may be able to give you some more reasonable options.

What a jerk!

Actually--believe it or not--he does take off points for going to the bathroom!
He is just a big ole jackass! I went ahead and dropped the class because I know I won't pass after I called him an asshole! That's okay...I'll just take it from someone else...I just can't believe someone could be so insensitive. I hope he gets a bad case of diherrea (right in the middle of class)!
I couldn't afford the class anyway. Not only did we have to buy a $130 book, but he wanted me to buy a $136 financial calculator that I would only use once! He was even giving a quiz this Friday on the calculator's instruction manual! Does he not understand that college students are poor?!

I had a friend in college who was hearing impaired and required a front seat near the instructor and tape recorder to ensure that she was able to discern everything that was said. She was taking a language class, no less, and so really needed that extra help.

The professor did not allow recorders, and would not make an exception in her case. She was finally able to require him to allow her to use a recorder, but he made her life so miserable in that class that she finally had to drop it.

Hillary...I still think I would report this to the 'powers that be'. If nothing else, it would serve to raise awareness that 'one size' does not fit all.

Well, the great and funny thing is that my mother in law's best friend is the president's secretary. I already called and let her know what was going on. She is getting the president to call the dean of the college of business. I mean, they can't discipline him but they can at least tell him to be a little more sensitive to student's needs.

I really hate to hear of these things. It reminds me of my last year in school. I was taking the big physics final using a 7 figure maths table book. Okay, I'm really dating myself here. Everyone else had a calculator, but my dad (university prof) would not let me have one. I had to do all my calculations by hand. The teacher did'nt care that I was at a serious disadvantage to the other kids as it was my "fault" that I did'nt have a calculator.

I always remembered that when I did some teaching at the college/university level. A lot of teachers are just arrogant idiots that think of themselves first and no one else second. They really do have large ego's.

Well, I'm happy to report that I was able to get into a different section of the class with a different teacher!
Also, the department secretary has a husband with alzeimers (spelling?) and she's going to start taking me to a spousal support group that her church has once a month. She was sad to hear about the teacher being such an ass.
Word has pretty much spread around the Business department about the incident. When Bruce got hurt, everyone knew about it so they probably won't be too happy to hear about the actions of their fellow teacher.
I saw him crossing the street earlier and I'm proud to say that I stopped so he could cross the walk, although I really wanted to let my foot "slip"!

So glad to see that you got into a different section. It's amazing how heartless teachers can be. And then, there are those teachers who are angels on earth, and they (almost) make up for the others. Glad you are moving onward. Bravo!
