How many fingers do you use for stimulation?
How high into the bowel do you go?

Hi Irene

I use one and only go in sufficiently to stimulate the bowel to move the stool down so it can either be expelled or I can evacuate.

I have never heard of using more than one finger and I personally wouldn't use more than one for fear of doing damage.

Don't know if thats of any help.

I only use one finger, and go in only about one or one and half inches.

Hi Irene,

Just wondered if there is any specific reason for this question?

Any problems etc.

Simon

Hi Irene. My boyfriend has to use about 3 fingers and he goes sometimes as far as his knuckels. I told him that alot of people on here say they use only one.. now i'm worried. he has been in his chair for 14 years and is a t10 complete.

I think that after 14 years,, he has it pretty well in hand ( no pun intended). If repercussions were to result,,, I think they already would have.

Don't worry ( be happy)

There is a difference between stimulation, and manual evacuation. Stimulation really is just a tickle to get things started. Manual evacuation means getting right in there and getting things out. Whatever you do, keep your nails short, wear gloves, use lubricant and go slow. The bowel really is an amazing thing. I do manual evac. No accidents, ever.
