Yeah it does smell bad but it always does. He has really sstrong urine? I do notice a change though. It is also always dark? So this is hard to determine? He did this in rehab and his tests were always negetive

I've had the white stuff before also, no idea what it is, but I've had it before when I was have a urine colture down and I didn't have a UTI. I though for sure I was going to have one and then didn't and was quite surprised but happy.

The nurses at my rehab refer to the white sediment as 'calcifications', aka the beginning of stone formation.
Drink up...

thanks for this idea. very plausible that it will be the start of stone formation

Hi, Be careful with the cranberry juice. Don't drink more than 400mls a day as the zinc in it has been linked to Alzheimer's disease.
Also, it is not the done thing to drink to much fluid nowadays as it overworks the kidneys. So if anyone is drinking pints at a time- stop- a few 250ml mugfuls throughout the day is better, with tea and coffee or whatever it is you drink normally. Over the years we have been told to drink 2lts, 6lts and 8lts a day [can they ever get it right!], blimey can you imagine drinking 8lts a day! Some years ago we were told to take vitamin C to keep the catheter clear, a year later we were told to stop as it was blocking them
I have got a tube that is chockablock full of the white stuff plus blood. The white stuff is either white blood cells because of infection or calcium. My catheter is covered with an egg shell type material trying to form around the balloon. I know I must have stones but I have not seen any doctors about is.
In the last few months I have taken every antibiotic known to man but I cant shift any infection as I have liver damage due to the tablets I have taken since I broke my neck [C5/6] in 78.
Got to admit I do cheat and take Frusimide [water tablets] to help clear the slime and stuff out of the catheter and tube of the bag.
Anyone who has been in a chair for a few years will know what works for them and will ignore the able bods who try and put their pennies worth in- especially nurses. They cant even begin to understand what we go through. I do my own catheter with the help from my mates because the nurses push the whole catheter inside which kicks off my
autonomic dysreflexia. They just never listened when I ask them not to put it in so far, all I got was 'We are trained' Trained in what? Torture?
My BP was 350/180 on one occasion [and rising] my head was banging, pouring sweat, pounding heart blah blah blah. The nurse [a nice one] took my catheter out and that started the AD, she was then in a catch 22 situation, she needed to get a new cath in, but I was in so much pain she couldn't, eventually it was sorted but I could not speak properly for 3 weeks.
God, I waffle on don't I. Sorry folk but I hope some of this has helped some of you

Haha about the nurses knowing more than you. I'm a C-5 tetra with full sensation, and a man. Cathing sucks, to say the least espescially with nurses who feel the need to use the full extent of the tube.
As for the sediment in urine, highly likely that it is a formation of white blood cells (pus) in response to an infection.

I got a fair bit of feeling back. Mostly sensation to soft touch, stick a pin in me and I know its a pin, but don't get the pain like able bods- then again, stick a pin in me and run because my spasm will kick the hell out of you.
My right hip is in constant pain because I lie on that side in bed, as I can only use my left hand to pick things up. And when I'm in the chair my body slumps that way, no matter what they try to keep me upright. You learn to live with it all and get down to the pub for the best pain killers ever!

He has been running fevers here and there. Also he has had a bit of trouble with bms. I think that when he spasms and clinches its stops the poo process. Is it possible for me to take a urine sample somewhere?
Oh and what is a stone formation? Those words scare me to death. Im trying to gather as much info on it so I can scare him into it

But unless you have authority to order it, you will probably still need Bricen's cooperation to get the scrip from the doc. Good luck!

Most Dr's offer sterile containers wrapped in plastic. Ask his Doc for a couple containers for the future. But, with these symptoms given, fever, thick smelly urine . . . that's plenty to go on for a reason to have it checked out. And yes, if it isn't a UTI, he may want to take an X-ray for kidney/ bladder stones.
