Hello,

I am trying to find out if anyone took oxybutinin hydrochloride/ditropan for a long time and had to come off it. Did you have any withdrawal/side effects and what were they? I have had to stop it suddenly because I'm pregnant and I'm having a really hard time because when I sit in my chair it just makes me sweat really profuse, cold sweat that doesn't stop. It's horrible and the only thing I can do is to lie down or kind of sit up in bed and then it calms down. My gynae has told me I have to stay off it for 4 months. I just don't want to have to lie in bed and not go anywhere for 4 months.

Can someone tell me if they have had similar experiences and if there is anything I can do to relieve it.

Thanks,

Rachel

I didn't have any problem when I stopped it. Could the pregnancy itself trigger dysreflexia?

I take 30mg of lyrenil xl a day, and am about to try the patches to see of the horrible dry mouth is better with them.

Does your gynae think it is harmful to your pregnancy, takying oxy? My doc seems to think that I should take it if the pros outweigh the cons, but no one knows what the effects are on pregnancy, though studies have been carried out on icke animals...

================================

Teratogenic Effects
Pregnancy Category B

Reproduction studies with oxybutynin chloride in the mouse, rat, hamster, and rabbit showed no definite evidence of impaired fertility or harm to the animal fetus. Subcutaneous administration to rats at doses up to 25 mg/kg (approximately 50 times the human exposure based on surface area) and to rabbits at doses up to 0.4 mg/kg (approximately 1 times the human exposure) revealed no evidence of harm to the fetus due to oxybutynin chloride. The safety of OXYTROL administration to women who are or who may become pregnant has not been established. Therefore, OXYTROL should not be given to pregnant women unless, in the judgment of the physician, the probable clinical benefits outweigh the possible hazards.

I couldn't take it - when i began taking it i couldn't get off the bed - sit up or anything, felt sick, dizzy and spaced out the whole time. had to change to something else

The drs said that they didn't know anyone who had this, but i react like that to lots of drugs so it didn't surprise me.
