There is a simple way. Just eat less!
It sounds tright but when I came out of hospital in 1983 I was underweight (sick of 9 months of hospital food) but 6 months later I was a beached whale from home cooking! I was eating 3 meals a day and being c4 complete not burning anything up as I really don't move much. I simply cut out, sugar (including any sugary drinks), full fat milk (skimmed instead), cut out lunch. So just ended up with breakfast (normally cereal or 2 slices toast) and a main meal. I've never looked back, stayed around my weight when injured (11 stone or so). Simple.

My Guy recently lost heaps of weight...he may even still be losing. Its hard to guage exactly how much as we all know how hard it is to weigh yourself when you cant stand on the bathroom scales! But his clothes are getting really baggy and you can see it when you look at photos.Hes done it by cutting out beer! he hardly drinks alcohol at all now, just the odd beer or glass of wine. He used to drink rather a lot! ( like 10 - 20 pints a day!) And of course he watches what he eats.

What Simon said is true, you need to think about the amount of physical activity you do compared to how much you eat, and to lose weight you need to eat less than what you actually need.

Now heres another side to it....when you have lost the weight, how do you tone up, my guy now has a wobbly tum! Hes T5 complete so he cant exercise those tummy muscles!

What, no beer!

Now there's a limit to what I'll do to lose weight, but it's not natural for a man and his beer to be separated, not natural at all I say!

Simon

p.s. this second bottle of wine is most excellent!

Me too, Jilly! Back when I lived in a predominantly German county, I could keep up with the big boys...but one beer now would make me downright goofy.

I'm very small too...last summer I wore my then-5 y/o son's shorts...and I'm not too far from being able to wear his shoes. But he's a larger than average boy too.

I just knew I should've bought a few shares of Nike when he was born!

Although that second bottle of wine was most excellent, I'll probably pay for it next week.

I'm off to the spinal unit for a couple of days, so I'll see what damage I can do to the scales!

i started eating according to the "zone balance" diet ~ not really to loose weight but because i needed more energy and it's supposed to give you a nice balanced energy all day long ~

you eat a balance of 40% carbohydrates, 30% protien and 30% fat at each meal. then you are to eat every 2 hours (hard to do, it's a nice goal tho).

but i noticed that not anly did i have a great, steady energy all day long with this diet, my fat went away and my mucles popped out ~ without even trying.

there is a computer program you can get called "Zone Balance 2" ~ and it will figure out exactly how much of each food would make a balanced meal. you plug in the data from the label on your foods and then tell it what you want to eat, you can eat anything at all, just the proportions have to be weighed out.

good health to you!
the only thing to worry about .. is worry

I'm with Simon - you can try as many atkins type diets as you want but the rules are very very simple - eat more calories than you use and you put on weight, eat less calories than you use and lose weight. So you can either eat less or exercise more or do both.

Like Simon I put on loads of weight when I left hospital having lost in hospital to the point where I was 6 or 7 Kg above my pre accident weight of 83Kg (185 lb) - I'm now 76Kg - mainly due to losing the huge cyclists thighs I had I think. Idid the same as simon - cut out big lunches and just started eating smaller portions.

I think the easiest way to lose weight is to prepare your meals as you normally would. Then when it's on the plate ready to be eaten just cut everything in half and put the other half (you know, the smaller half! :dunno: ) in the refrigerator for your next meal. Or it mix it into your dog's food and make her very, very happy. But cut down on her regular amount of dog food to compensate. Or your normally skinny greyhound may get a "beer" belly like mine has.

And if can add just a little extra exercise (nothing drastic) to what you normally do the weight should should start coming off.

Now if only I could follow my own advice!

I just started on Neurontin for pain. And find that my appetite has really decreased. Hey, a twofer. Less pain and hopefully less weight!!!

I would agree to that!

I think the worst thing though is when you get bored and start munching! My darling had a junk food craving not so long ago...we ended up going to the supermarket and getting chips, chocolate, biscuits, salted nuts, ice cream etc etc and boy did he pay for it a couple of days later! He now knows what to do when he gets constipated! :D

He is too stubborn to take pain killers though unless he is just about dying...so I dont know about the decreased appetite....but it sounds good to me! :D
