Good Food ......whats the side affects Rate Topic: -----

Hi, just some questions for anyone that knows,

right as i said before my new years resolution is to eat better, but i just wanted to know what the following side affects the following foods have, ie does it make your stool softer or harder

fruit, ie apples, bannanas and oranges..............i guess softer
milk,..............................................................i guess harder
cheese,..........................................................i gues softer
salad, ie lettace leaves and all that stuff you get in a bg for a £1 or so .............hell knows :D

also what affect would having a baguette everylunchtime have, i mean i know it all depends on the fillings but does lots of bread have an effect on bowells,

hi wheelie

just shown your post to mandy and she suggested slimming world,she lost 3 stone on their plan doing daily activties(hates excercise) :D ,never hungry as you can eat loads of free food

you can join online if you don't want to go to classes,i am using mandy's books to help me feel better and lose weight :) as that was also my new years resolution,more healthy eating than diet,as for going to loo,bulks up stools with fibre so makes it easier but no constipation for normal bowel anyway

I think cheese makes it harder....sugar makes it softer...lots of water makes it softer.... salad and veges etc makes it softer because of the high fibre content...
Whole grain breads would make it softer...not sure about white breads....

This is such a lovely subject!!!!! I now converse about things that I would never have done before!! :D

well i just wanted to know that stuff because i want to eat more healthy but i dont want it screwing up anything in my routine, ya'll know what i mean :D

Yes, cheese is definitely a constipator.

White bread is not good for much of anything as far as the digestive system goes. It's just too processed. When buying bread, look for "100% whole wheat" on the package... some will say 'whole wheat', but may have very little in its content.

I think I recall that bananas are good for diarrea (sp), but I'll have to get back to you on that. :D Edited to add: Nope, it's good for constipation, like Jilly said.

Those clear fiber drinks might be worth looking into, if you think you're not getting enough fiber. They claim to be tasteless. :)

Ummmmm open minded? Yes apparently but......

NUDES!!!!!!!! I have'nt tackled any of those...... I think I would be so busy getting all embarrassed about not looking at those um PERSONAL BITS that I wouldnt be able to paint anything at all!!!! Too busy blushing!!! :D

Went for a coffee with a new friend yesterday and much of the conversation was about bowel motions, urine infections and bad teeth! Lovely! a whole new world has opened up for me! :)

Dried figs are great for keeping you 'regular'. 2 per night, no probs.
Any greens and/or fibre is good KEEP AWAY from laxatives, bad - bad - bad. They make your bowel lazy.
Wheat of any kind is bad for you as is yeast (yes beer). So if you have rto have brown/wholegrain bread, preferably rye or spelt bread.

Spicy foods tend to speed things up. Unfortunately they can sometimes gas you up, which really speeds me up in a bad way. Raw spinach works wonders for speeding me up. Pizza always blocks me up if I have more than two pieces.

Sorry Wheelie, but...LOL! :lol:

Anyway, prune juice. Tastes vile, but I've found it so great at keeping me regular (well, as regular as I've ever been) that I have been able to stop taking senna (and I've relied on Senna since injury in 2004).

Only thing is, I have to drink it down a.s.a.p, and try not to breathe through my nose.
Paraplegic since Sept 30th 2004 (spontaneous spinal extradural haematoma).

getting back to food, I am doing a fairly hot curry for dinner tonight and serving a cabbage and mint raita (a bit like coleslaw) so there's plenty to encourge movement donw below. I'll let you know tht result.

Wheelie-
any fruits will deff loosen things up...i stay away from them the first couple meals following my routine.
Milk- personally i would stay away from dairy...humans dont digest dairy well no matter what..were not meant to eat it. Try soy milk or goat.
Cheese- tastes so good but is deff a constipator....stick to goats cheese, things like that, digests easier.
Salad...leafey greens etc- will loosen things up
As far as bagels go or breads- i pretty much live of breads...but you want to stick to whole wheat..spelt...ancient grains...like someone else said. I find that if i eat really fiberous bread like pure flax right after a routine it can lead to problems.

Stay away from any oily foods

I think it just comes down to what works for you..trial and error...im obsessive over what I eat....and it'll prob take your body a little bit to get used to the new diet. I need to work on eating more fruit and vegs

haha hot curry and cabbage, throw tons of ginger and garlic in there for extra pow.
I'd have to eat that sitting on the crapper.
Waiting for the rectal raping that was sure to follow.

Thats one thing I really miss since being in a chair, is the good hot spicy foods...east indian...mexican. Just cant do it anymore without paying the price.

I find it all depends on how often I have a b/m, if everyday I drink 1 liter of water, Breakfast: 1 banana, whole grain cereal w/ soy or rice milk. Lunch: Sandwich and soy yogurt, or spinach w/ Tuna. Dinner: I go off dieting at dinner.
I snack on granolas and dried fruits throughout, fiber is good.

Important note: Drinking to much will deplete your body of blood sodium level and Iodine content. These are very important for good health. I reccomend a good unproccessed sea salt.

a friend told me about this:

get powdered vitamin C, take 1250 mg (1/4 th teaspoon) and mix it in water ~ and be sure to take it with 400 IUs of vitamin E.

you can sweeten it and make lemonade ~ then pop the vit E tablet and drink it down.

after you see how well this works for you, you can double the dose if needed.

it's a tasty, healthy way to poo!

another thing that works really well for bowels is drinking 8 ounces of aloe vera juice every day.

from health food stores this can be really pricey, but i've found it at sam's club where it is quite affordable..

it kind of feels like you have put moisturizing lotion on ~ but on the inside!

Well I think I am on the worng forum for this sort of bowel problem but here goes. The curry with raita the other week had not particular effect. I was 'going' evry 1 - 2 days fine. Then last wednesday the 'world fell out of my bottom' all unformed.

After a shower and a lot of cleaning everything was fine, and it has taken until today for further out what you appear. I just wish I understood my bowels better.

I have been in my chair 34 years now.. I find that juiceing in a jucier,and I eat 1 clove garlic. re-starts a cleansing process. I find processed foods [pre-made] arn't for me, lots of sugar stuff ar'nt pleasant,
I eat alot of cereal, the healthy kind of corse.I eat alot homeade stir fry with lot of garlic and cyanne pepper, the kindof stir frys at restraunts and stores have alot of MSG not good.. homeade soups yumm yumm.. as for breads white only creats the terd, No health value, alot of the quickie foods have no nutrition, just chemicals to keep a longer shelf life in the store. I love three seed bread, 12 grain, sprouted bread is New to me but Im liking it..
