Your prayers are needed! Bruce goes in for a job interview for dispatcher with the police department tomorrow morning. Any prayers would be appreciated...this job is very important for our family.
Do any of your spouses work? If so, what do they do? Is it hard on them?

Hi Hilary,
I'm praying and sending good energy your way.
Since you asked, my boyfriend works every day (long hours, six days a week) in his own auto repair shop. He already had this shop before his injury three years ago (T5/T6) but now he is forced to hire other mechanics to do most of the things that he used to do himself, while he sits in his chair and supervises. It's incredibly frustrating for him, but on the other hand, he feels lucky that he has this option.
All the best to you!

Hillary...
I know this is late...I've been offline for a few days, had to buy a new computer
... but I wanted to wish you both the very best in your interviews. I'm anxious to hear how they went.

Yes, he did tell me that he could not pay me as much as my last job paid....I told him that was fine because this job includes benefits. He said he was going to take my application up to the top floor and see if they needed someone because they paid more. I DON'T CARE.....I JUST NEED A JOB!!!

Congratulations on the new job, hillary!
I hope it all goes well this first week, and you find that you like what you'll be doing. Still keeping my fingers crossed for Bruce too.

I wanted to give everyone an update on the job situation.
I love my new job and I am actually being considered for the office manager position! I am in a 'trial period' to see if I can handle it. I hope it all works out.
Unfortunately, Bruce didn't get his job. It is really some bullsh*t because the chief of police called him up there and asked him to apply for the job. Why would you ask someone to apply if you didn't plan on hiring them? We are both really disgusted with them. We heard that they didn't want to hire him because he would have to take a break every 4 hours to get off his butt.....discrimination anyone?? Anyway, he is just trying to pick up and move on. He is going to apply with the sheriff's dept. and state police. If those don't come through, I think he is going to get a second college degree.

Hillary...
It sounds to me like an ADA issue. I don't think they can refuse to hire him because he requires some reasonable accomodations. But the type of job he's applying for may see that as 'unreasonable', since he'd have to be available all the time he's working. But he certainly could do dispatching tasks while lying down. That's reasonable.
I applied for a dispatcher's job in the 70's....they narrowed it down between me and another applicant, who had done that type of work before. My interview was with the Chief of Police and the Mayor...talk about nervous!! But even though I didn't get the job, I feel that I was beat out by the better, more qualified applicant, so I can't complain too much. Still, it'd be a great job to have!
I hope he isn't too discouraged...it's a treasure hunt, and I'm confident that something will come along that will be a perfect fit for him.
