We Don't Bite . . . Much!

It is a sad but true fact that some people will make a conscious effort to cross the road rather than make eye contact with person in a wheelchair.

The reasons for this are wide ranging, but most commonly it's because people do not know how to react to a disabled person, and are fearful of embarrassing themselves in public.

Generally, once a person has had contact with a disabled person, they will be more likely to make further contact in the future with other disabled people.

Of course it does help the situation a little, if the disabled person makes the first move, and it's surprising how much difference a simple smile and a "hello" can make. However, if you have a bad attitude and growl at the able boded community, be prepared to be treated like a rotweiler in a kindergarden!
