Disabled Humor Sites - John Callahan & Co

Below are the websites of John Callahan ( Callahan Online ), Dan Wilkins ( The Nth Degree ), Gimpstore, Dizabled, and Stump's 'R Us.

If you have a humor site, please get in touch and we'll add it below.

There's absolutely nothing funny about a quadriplegic in a wheelchair. Unless, of course, that person is John Callahan. For nearly a decade, this irreverent cartoonist has been shocking America with his own special brand of wicked humor. In the world of Callahan, nothing is sacred, nothing is taboo and nothing is funnier!

John Callahan is the author of six cartoon collections Freaks of Nature, The Night, They Say, Was Made for Love plus My Sexual Scrapbook, Do Not Disturb Any Further, Digesting the Child Within, Do What He Says! He's Crazy!, What Kind of God Would Allow a Thing Like This to Happen? - an autobiography, Don't Worry He Won't Get Far on Foot: The Autobiography of a Dangerous Man and a children's book The King of Things and the Cranberry Clown. His cartoons appear in the San Francisco Chronicle, the New York Daily News, The London Observer, the Los Angeles Times, the Chicago Tribune, Harper's, the Utne Reader, and 50 other publications.

The Nth Degree is about feeding our sense of humor: that vital and most intimate connection with the child within. Laughter is the elixir of life and the universal language. Shared, it levels walls; opens minds, assuages fear. Being able to laugh at ourselves, our professions, our fears, our culture with its "norms" and expectations, is like taking the kid to work with you.

The Nth Degree is about turning light bulbs on. We are about helping folks to recognize that there is no such thing as "Us and Them", just one big "Us". We're about increasing awareness and understanding; as much about the celebration of our individuality and our differences, as the search for common ground: the search for shared truths, interests, histories, goals, fears.

I began to develop the idea of Leeder O. Men in 1985 while I was a teacher's assistant at an adaptive weight training class at Santa Barbara City College. In the fall of '97, dizABLED evolved into its present strip format. It's 2004 and I am learning Flash and some 3D software, so we know where it is headed. We have started to ink the basic strip again and it will be updated as we complete them. We would love nothing more than to do them every day for you. Maybe someday.

Leeder still sees the new future, to boldly roll where no one has rolled before. If you like our cartoons, we're happy you made the visit. If not, please compare notes with the Leeder O. Phobes and then head over to the Association for Applied and Therapeutic Humor. They can better explain some of the reasons why we choose to be involved.
